Are FAMILY VALUES philosophy MAKING SUCKERS out of us?
Why is it that republican and religious and secular conservatives continue make family values an election issue. The issue of family values and morality was ONE of the hallmark reasons for the Republican take-over of congress and it was also used as a theme during Bush’s first run for office.
Read the list of “hypocrites” below and respond whether or not you think that family values was/is a “SMOKE SCREEN” to win favor and votes

There are many, many, many more. I know that I am going to be accused of being repub-coserv-basher. I am not, I know the democrats have just as many scandals if not more. However, I think that the whole PLATFORM OF CONSERVATIVE FAMILY VALUES IS A DISINGENIOUS strategy to rally votes and to swing elections. THIS LIST DEMONSTRATES THE FACT THAT NO ONE PRACTICES WHAT THEY PREACH!!!
I also believe that we are all human and everyone makes mistakes, but it is VERY HYPOCRITICAL to impose ideas that these “cultural-icons” don’t keep!
(((What are your thoughts???)))))))

Of course they are hypocrites, but the truth is that people really play more attention to what you say than what you do; and, in the mean time they are being tricked into voting against their best interests by this red herring "family values" issue.
By this I mean that many of the "family values" voters are economically vulnerable people who need better health care and education, things which most Conservatives tend to oppose for those who can’t pay for it; but, many poor people vote for these people because they are "family values" candidates and perhaps do a bit of a religious song and dance to go along with it.
They go to church because they need to believe that there is something better for them out there somewhere and maybe there is in some afterlife, but in the meantime their "faith" is being used against them in this life.
Okay, so then, it stands to reason that if I raise a platform which rallies against "hate crimes" for instance, I win the election and it later turns out I beat the snot out of gays at night just for fun, perhaps I should just be branded a hypocrite and that silly idea about hate crimes shouldn’t be imposed on anyone or mentioned again? That’s what you’re saying for here.

Fancy That! Oh Pleeeaaaasseee!
MOST of the things YOU claim are failures of the republican agenda are SPECIFICALLY staples of the Democrats who have failed to fix ANY of them after 50 years of failed social engineering policy! You honestly think the Democrats aren’t guilty of "telling people what they want toy hear"? HAHAHA! Every ONE of them claims they’re going to make this a utopia by sticking it to the man! I may philosophically fall on the side of the Republicans, but I don’t attempt to FOOL MYSELF or anyone else– ALL politicians tell people what they WANT to hear!
The GOP will tell you whatever they THINK you want to hear so they can use elected offices to further their own power and wealth.
The ‘family values’ party has thrown countless Americans into poverty, deprived them of health care, eroded our educational base, started a war that has left 4,000 US families much sadder, and tend of thousands more with disabled & forgotten Iraqi vets.
Stop listened to what they SAY and start following what they DO.
The fact that they can lie so blatently to their own constituents tells you they have no respect for average people and they have no personal integrity whatsoever.
That, my friend, is the GOP.
I can’t argue with you. Those political tactics and topics that hit the heartland were sure attention getters and was more of a success in the 60′s.
This is an excerpt from a news letter by paul Jacobs
Politicians are notorious at talking the talk, but then not walking the walk. For career politicians, issues are something they put in their speeches and commercials because they know that’s what voters care about. Issues are the bait politicians use to catch voters, but politicians aren’t committed to anything but the act of reeling us in. They often don’t respect our opinions the morning after the election.
But there is a pledge that gives us as voters a lot better handle on what is truly motivating someone to run for office. It’s called the Term Limits Pledge. It’s not a pledge to support term limit bills in a Congress dead-set against them. It’s a pledge about not pursuing a career as a politician, at all. Going to Washington for a short period of public service as a citizen legislator. No more than three terms, tops.
Career politicians become skillful at the bob and weave of telling people what they want to hear, and then finding excuses for failing to follow through. But representatives who take the Term Limits Pledge swear off a career. They act on their belief in term limits. And they do fight for what they believe in. They walk the walk.

I opened my answer with Jacobs commentary because I believe that you maybe forgot as do so many of us that for many elected to government ,be they republican or democrat the whole campaign process is smoke and mirrors. they look at the polls and go "hey there,s alot of conservative ,christian, republicans out there.or "there is a large amount of liberal pro gay,pro abortion people out there"
"I have to have their votes! then they design their public image around that lifesyle and portray it to the world through carefully crafted media and sound bytes. You think people would vote for someone that would come out and say;Vote for me and I,ll misuse government funding for my own desires, have numerous illicit affairs including blow jobs from a white house intern and then I,ll lie about it untill you threaten to impeach me. probably not.
I believe that you are incorrect that no one practices what they preach. the united states is full of people who DO believe and DO practice what they believe concerning the moral Right and conservative family values and we shouldnt judge them by the ones who are elected to represent them.
All Americans are responsible for who is elected into office.the fault lies with maybe taking a person at face value and believing their campaign promises ,instead of investigating further into a persons background.enforcing term limits, not voting for someone who wont sign a term limit pledge, watch for those who switch sides depending on whos in power.
most of all i believe we have to get involved! research! and vote!
peace><>
Thank you!
I’ve been saying this for years!
Seriously, when will people just start acting like people and grow up?
I’m an independent and you know what? I could care less about family values.
Sex only after marriage? I don’t think so.
Oppose divorce? Never.
Why are these hypocrites in office anyway?!
I could do a better job!
