That said, I believe the problem goes back to about thirty years ago when the right-wing religious coalitions hijacked the Republican Party. Since then, we've seen a steady shift from 'fiscal conservatism' to 'social conservatism'. Politics needs to get out of the business of legislating morality and let people alone to determine and live by their own 'family values'. People are people, some good, some bad, with most being in-between. It really isn't that difficult to get along these days. People expect you to live what you preach. It really is that simple. The sad part is, all these scandals could have been avoided with a little honesty, in all its forms, applied to the different situations.
