How to get your ex back, when his family is trying to control him?
Also need to add that we are 1300 miles away right now, i am not asking him to choose or anything like that. His family has always been trying to control his every move and now even with him gone in the Air force.

You’re definitely right not to ask him to choose. His family is, and always will be, very important to him. What you need to do is show support. You don’t mention specifically what you mean by "trying to control his every move" but make sure you don’t phrase it that way to him.
Be there for him. There are things he can talk to you about that he can’t talk to his family about. That’s what will make the difference.
The tips on getting your ex back are:
1. The first thing you should do is write down all the bad things that happened in your relationship. Write down what caused the break. Also, write down what you may have done wrong. After you have completed this, go ahead and write down some possible solutions to the problems.
This will prove to your ex that you really care about them and the relationship.
2. Another tip on how to get an ex back after a breakup is to let them know that you agree with the break up. This might be difficult for you to do. And I know it seems like it’s counter productive. But it’s very effective and will work. When you let your ex know that you agree with the break up, you’re going to make them want you.
Instead of you pushing and forcing them to come back to you, your ex will know ask you if they can come back.
3. The third thing you need is plan. Your plan should consists of what to say to your ex, when to ask them out, what to say when you meet up with them, and when to meet up with them. This will ensure you that you won’t ruin your chances of getting back with your ex.
