Why shouldn’t gay people be allowed to marry? Is it because of that book the Bible?
I think according to that book the Bible shouldn’t atheists also not be allowed to marry.
Should we ban marriage between gays, atheists, while we are at it, since we are basing are legislation on the Bible, Jesus called a Canaanite woman a dog in Matthew 15, and in Rev 22:15 it says dogs don’t get into heaven. Should blacks repent of their sin and be saved and go to church as white people before they get married?
Jews too, I think we should base our laws on the Bible and not let gays or jews or blacks or atheists get married.

Might I add that marriage is NOT a religious affair. We allow athiests to marry in STATE ceremonies. Why not gays and lesbians? No one is saying your churches have to preform these cermonies. Who is the STATE to tell people who they should commit their lives to???

I can give you a RAmen for one thing…the Bible has been horribly misinterpreted throughout the ages and has caused so much hate and damage……Yes, let the loving gay couples live in peace.
I have no objection to homosexual relationships, but I would prefer to reserve the word "marriage" to heterosexual unions simply to maintain the classic meaning of the word. Many states now authorize civil unions, which imply the same duties and privileges as in a heterosexual marriage; I approve of this.
I can see you don’t understand much of the Bible, despite your self-proclaimed attack on it. First off, having dark or light skin or being male or female is genetic, homosexual behavior is not. If behavior were genetic, we couldn’t punish ppl for crimes.
Disallowing gay marriage is simply wisdom. To allow it is to ignore the underlying causes of homosexuality, such as sexual abuse, inadequate parental relationships, and reversed gender roles, which can lead to gender confusion. In addition, I doubt most gay marriages would last very long, and it wouldn’t affect that many ppl. Less than 3% of homosexuals are monogamous for any period of time, and many, even though reporting being in a relationship, said they cheated at least once, if this happened in marriage, divorce would likely result. So, allowing gay marriage would further cover up and ignore the causes behind it, which we need to fix, and those marriages that did go through probably wouldn’t last long, statistically speaking.

As far as I can understand, gay people don’t have an issue with gettign married in churches or so on, which is what most conservative, Christian people are freaking out about. If people had a little more interest and learned the FULL topic, it has nothing with religion, but equality of spousal benefits, and so it is more a topic for companies that are being tightfisted about paying benefits, and the legality of these issues.
I say as long as it doesn’t physivcally hurt anyone, let the people do what they want, behind closed doors, so they dont hurt those conservative feelings. By the way, stragith people arent’ doign any better in the fidelity dept. and MANY kids are coming out screwed up by these so called "normal" relationships. I say it’s more what’s in the persons heart, and stable mind, no matter gay or straight.

According to recent studies, MOST American’s DEFINE marriage to be between male and female, not the same sexes.
In the bible it says that people should not judge. If people are going to say gay people can not get married because of the bible, than why the heck are they judging people if they’re using the bible as a way of stopping people from getting married! If you allow gay marriage, then it will be underage marriage, then animal marriage, and so on and so on…there has to be a place where we say THIS IS WHAT MARRIAGE IS—and Since the beginning of time, marriage was given by God to be between a man and a woman. Gays want this right for themselves to make it seem that they are not living in sin, but they are. Same goes for a hetero couple who is not married and is having sex. I think christians pick and choose what they want to follow and also pick and choose parts to quote to people and call them sinners. I believe that everyone should be happy and choose a life that makes them happy. How does a gay couple getting married affect christians and their religion? A sin to one may not be a sin to another.
Based on what the bible tells us, I have learned that Jehovah god made the first human pair. Genesis tells us in its 2nd chapter, verses 22 through 24: "And Jehovah God proceeded to build the rib that he had taken from the man into a woman and to bring her to the man. Then the man said:

This one will be called Woman,
Because from man this one was taken.” That is why a man will leave his father and his mother and he must stick to his wife and they must become one flesh."

Please read the fore mentioned passage then explain it to others. Jesus was giving a lesson to His disciples and at the end of he passage says "woman great is your faith". Please do not reference Scripture if you are not well versed in it.

Marriage has several definitions, depending on who you ask.
What I think is unfortunate is that a gay marriage does not have the same rights as a "traditional" marriage. Health care, taxes, etc.

According to the bible Christians are not to marry unbelievers, because there is too much spiritual discord. So, God does not allow His people to marry athiest. It is perfectly fine with God that people (male & female) of different colors marry if they are both born-again Christians. Christians come from all nations & become a new peculiar nation.
It is written in Proverbs that God blesses the man that finds His woman. Don’t expect to get God to bless something that goes against His purpose for you. God will not bless a homosexual union in marriage.
Dogs are suppose to refer to sorcerers, witches, etc. They have rejected the Truth of God, and go to other spirits. I guess this canaanite woman practiced witchcraft & she knew it. She told Jesus that even dogs eat the crumbs from The Masters table. He told Her she had great faith & healed her daughter. But He did not bless Her witchcraft. I think the whole gay marriage issue is actually an amalgam of two separate issues.
1.) Marriage as a religious/cultural event that entails two people pledging to spend their lives together.
2.) A civil union that allows two people to become an interdependent household. Allowing for things like "family" insurance coverage.
Marriage is something derived from an intersubjective "reality" that we call culture. Often times this includes religious elements. According the the good old Constitution, there should be no laws endorsing a particular religion or preventing free exercise. I would think that this should allow Americans (can’t speak for others) to follow the dictates of their religion and make vows as they see fit. If their religion allows for two individuals of the same gender to make these vows the the State needs to stand back and not prevent free exercise. And, the *religious* belief that same sex marriages should not take place should not be endorsed by the State through laws or Constitutional ammendments.
Which leads to the second issue….
Just because a religious group allows for vows to be made, that in no way means that the State must recognize them. If someone wants to "marry" a dog, go ahead, weirdo, but don’t expect the state to recognize the union. If someone wants to "marry" a child, if they break any laws in the process they should be prosecuted.
The aforementioned extreme examples aside, I don’t know why the State, absent *religious* prohibitions, would not allow long term partners of the same sex to become an interdependent household. I would also suggest that civil unions be extended to other pairings as well, such as an older brother that cares for a younger gravely disabled brother. Elderly women that are long time friends that live together, etc.
These civil unions should not just be based on an ongoing committed *sexual* relationship. People should not be forced to fabricate a sexual component to their relationship just to derive protection by the law.
Oh, and by the way. I’m a christian. I think that Jesus would take the high road of compassion on the issue rather than trying to assert cultural dominance and exclusion using the mechanisms of political power.

To say that sexual abuse stems from homosexual behaviour is ignorant. Most sex crimes are committed by heterosexual men. Also, most molestation crimes are committed by heterosexuals with an attraction towards children of both sexes.
Also, the T-40 I believe it’s called, shows that homosexuality is generic not enviromental. So people ARE born homosexual, not taught.

Everyone is screaming that Christians are trying to force their beliefs down the throats of the American public….well, let me tell you….only about 2% of the population is gay…yet the homosexual agenda is forcing the other 98% of us to deal with their lifestyle. Why is it so important for some homosexual activists to prove that someone can be born a homosexual?
If the world was convinced that some people are indeed born gay, then some would feel there is a need to protect homosexuals by the government as a designated minority class status, such as African- or Native-Americans. Slowly but surely, it seems the government is embracing this view and granting special rights to the homosexual community for what is a behaviorally based identity rather than a true genetic one.
Even if somewhere in the future a genetic link could be proven, it wouldn’t suddenly make the behavior right or acceptable to society.
Look at alcoholism or tendencies toward anger. While these have been promoted as having a genetic linkage, there are few, if any, in our society who would accept such behaviors just because they are linked genetically.
