Gay marriage question?
Ok so I kind of have questions, or rather challenges to arguments against gay rights and using the bible as evidence.
1). Often times people say that they just want to keep the definition of marriage the same. But historically we have changed it quite frequently. I mean, before you parents got to choose who you could marry and they also had polygamy. To get to the point where marriage is now, we had to change it. (OK so this is the question) What would be the harm of changing the definition of marriage just one more time to make it more equal?
2). OK so a lot of people are against gay marriages because they say its against the Bible. Firstly, in the new testament, Jesus never says anything condeming gay marriage, but rather just says that he wants you to marry and have kids and all that. That is no real condemtion of gay marriage. Also, the whole concept of Christianity is that man is flawed, and we can be saved through Jesus. Now, if man is flawed, and God is all that is perfect, wouldn’t that mean that our clumsy human hands that wrote the Bible make an imperfect documentation of the word of God?
3). The Bible has polygamy, so why should we trust this book with the teachings of a God that enables this immorality? I know, everyone says you can’t compare marriage customs back then, but the thing is GOD DID NOT STOP THIS in the Bible. Since he didn’t, that either means he feels it is OK or he is an enabler, thus making him imperfect.

Yes. Quite excellent.
Excellent.
To the person who said that it’s not natural b/c no other animals do it – Other than dolphins, no other animal has sex for pleasure. Does that mean that it’s not natural and therefore humans shouldn’t do it either? No. No other animal creates or uses technology, does that mean we shouldn’t? No. With greater brain power comes the freedom to push the limits of what is ‘expected.’ I don’t think anyone is saying that your church needs to perform gay marriages, so how does the government recognizing two men or two women as a couple in a committed relationship affect you at all?
What would be wrong with changing the institution of marriage to suit dysfunctionalal behavior is that it’s not logical for one, And two marriage is a institution covenantnt to bind and strengthen a natural healthy hetero relationship, Not an unnatural homosexual perversion .
God bless .
The Bible is very flawed. It is definitely NOT the Word of God.
No matter how inspired the authors were or by what source, the information had to filter through their minds and personalities. The Bible was written by men immersed in an ancient patriarchal culture. They all had agendas, whether it was keeping the social order, unifying doctrine, eliminating heresy or gaining converts. For me, it’s a pretty transparent piece of propaganda.
What I do value in the Bible is the story of Christ’s life and teachings. I think He knew how misinterpreted and manipulated words can become and therefore lived in a way that would allow us to follow in His footsteps regardless of what anyone wrote about Him.
The links below objectively detail the origins of the Bible (1)
as well as the inconsistencies and inaccuracies (2)
? have you ever seen any animal species Other
than Humans Be with the same sex ?
Its unnatural ridiculous And makes no sense
at all Grow up and get a woman fool
Have you ever seen “I now pronounce you chuck and Larry”? in there the little girl list animals that will be with the same sex including dolphins killer whales and proposes! I see nothing wrong with gays being allowed to marry! They have the right to be a miserable as the rest of us! Lol.
1. The Bible doesnt condemn polygamy as a sin. Only later church tradition in same cases did. But anyway thats not really a good example of redefining marriage in a major way. Only limiting it. Its still man>woman. How would gay marriage make anything equal? If gays want to live their lives, they are allowed to. But that doesnt mean I have to fund it, license it, or sanction it through the govt.
2. Actually Jesus affirmed the law and everything in it. Part of the law was the sexual morality commands. Part of the sexual morality commands was not committing homosexuality. Anything unclear about that? When did Jesus ever order us to marry and have kids??
Jesus made it clear in Matthew 4:4 that man lives on every word from God which is passed down by mankind and preserved for us in Scripture. We dont believe that God is so clumsy that he would ONLY entrust humanity carrying on his message without divine inspiration. And that is exactly what we see when we read SCripture.
3. Who says its immoral??? Actually back then, Gods message was to be fruitful and multiply. Polygamy seemed as obvious avenue to accomplish that goal.
I would worry less about what you think is moral and what God thinks is moral.
What God has deemed as sin is sin, and shall remain sin till the end, and it is not subject to negotiation or even discussion, because all who do truly believe know that He has the final Word, and not us; this is called reverence. As for Christ He tells us the plain Truth concerning marriage as to who they are that are sanctified in marriage, "that He which made them at the beginning made them male and female". He needs not to say any more, for we all know what this means, it is plain unhindered Truth. As for God´s Word, if you find it less than good enough, then there are multitude of other´s words out in the world which you can find, that will tell you exactly what you want to hear to justify any particular sin you seek to exonerate; but it shall not be found in God´s Word.
1) Original state of marriage was man and woman as opposites, as stated in the Bible. Changing the definition to grant special rights based on abnormal behavior makes no sense. I’m not talking about rights because you can get those rights in other ways than forcing religions and cultures that call it wrong to either agree or be forced to. Marriage does NOT equal rights.
2) The Bible says that homosexuality is an abomination. Since Jesus gave this to the prophets who wrote it, it is safe to say Jesus called homosexuality an abomination. You may say that the bible is flawed… or you might want a different definition or translation that’s more allowing. But for the person who believes Jesus is God, then He was the one who said homosexuality is an abomination.
3) Your argument is based on the belief that polygamy is immoral, which I have a hard time agreeing with when it’s done with consenting adults. What would be your reasoning for polygamy to be immoral?
Bible is Operating Manual given by our Maker for us to follow carefully so that we may live according to His divine purpose. He made the Bible for us to follow its principles so that we may be free from any problem like dysfunctional relationships, wars, depression, poverty, sickness and diseases and many others. If we apply God’s instructions in all our systems and lives as accurately as possible, we all will be a lot happier than we are now. If we operate IN CONTRAST to anyway we should, eventually and surely we will break down. If God condemns same sex marriage, He has a very good reason why. He loves us and He doesn’t want us to get hurt. And if we choose to go on against His will, He will not stop us. He then should not be blamed for any curse we may bring to ourselves by the decisions we made.
Here’s what i think: separation of church and state.
the government should recognize gay marriage just as they recognize any other marriage. the church should stay out of it, since they aren’t getting married in a church.
if the government wants to call it marriage, civil union or some other term, fine. but they should have the SAME RIGHTS as anyone else. (one very important example: if their SO gets terminally ill, or is in a coma, or passes away, the existing lover currently has no rights. but if a husband or wife is in the same situation, they have rights. it should be equal.)
