Can he ever love again?? ….thank you for your help!?
Apparently I broke my boyfriend’s heart a month ago…and he did not tell me until a week ago. He is so forgiving! …I did not mean to hurt him…we have been dating for 2 months and talking for 5 months and until a month ago he would tell me "I love you" and lavish his love on me and I couldn’t say it back yet..it takes me a while to truly LOVE. this is my first relationship! Don’t get me wrong–I’m crazy about my boyfriend and could definitely love him some day. Anyways, I screwed up and asked him a month ago if we could not say "I love you" because I secretly didn’t believe that he could TRULY love me after a few months of talking and being newly official. I just wanted us to be careful! Anyways, he responded with "understandable," but ever since then, he has almost seemed to lose interest. he took it like a breakup almost internally he told me. he still treats me well..he said it will take him time to love again. can he EVER love me again?! I now realize how genuine he was!

I will not say that it is impossible to love someone in 5 months but perhaps he is confusing "love" with "falling in love". Love is enduring and usually takes time & experience before it can fully develop.
I hope that this experience has taught you to never say something that you don’t mean, especially something as serious as "I love you". Only say those words when you feel & mean it with your heart.
If he says that it will take him time to love again after you made one "mistake" then it must not really be love. When you love someone you love them no matter what they do because it is not based on conditions or actions performed/words spoken by the other person.
Ask yourself, if you really love & want to be with this guy OR do you feel sorry for him & for hurting him. . .so much so that you want to take back what you said and make things better to "heal" his heart?
Words are not proof of love but actions speak loudly. This guy obviously cares about you if he is still treating you well. So, maybe you two can take things slow, continue getting to know each other, spending time together. . .and let things take their natural course. He can & will love again. It IS possible for him to love you (again), too.
Enjoy the relationship and consider it a learning experience. . .chances are this maybe your first relationship but it will not be your last.
Remember: never settle, stay true to yourself, your values, & goals, say what you mean & mean what you say, and don’t feel obligated to love or commit to anyone!

i too have that turn off switch. its like something that happens in the brain, when you say or do something to make us feel we may be getting rejected somehow, and thats what it sounds like. I mean, if he was so into you and you stopped his momentum, it makes him shut off emotionally. willl he ever love you again? I dont know, my guess would be move on and dont make the same mistake with the next guy. this one seems to be done with the relationship and prob is sticking it out becuz he doesnt want to hurt you. he may even be miserable without you knowing it.
