Is it Massachusetts’ fault gay marriage isn’t passing in other states?
I live in Mass, and I know for a fact that schools are reading books to children about gay couples.
On a business trip in CA, I saw an ad that used this in an anti-gay marriage ad. I know it didn’t pass there, and I heard that gay marriage just didn’t pass in ME, and the ads were using the same tactic.
I am not gay. I do not even think gays have anything to be proud of. However, I DO think they should be allowed to marry, and share the same benefits as straight couples!
Does anyone else think that the Massachusetts liberals took it too far by adding education about gay couples to young children’s curriculum, and actually hindered gay rights in the long run?
As a side note, I personally think gays should be allowed to marry, but I have to agree that I don’t think young children need to be informed about gay lifestyles. At least save it until they’re old enough for sex ed!
Well Yakito, you’re my point-in case. That’s exactly the fodder that feeds the anti-gay marriage campaigns. Nice work. I want equal rights for gays, but because of militant liberals, middle-of-the-road people are scared out of voting for gay rights.

Why are people so concerned about preventing gays from marrying? I don’t see how it affects non-gays at all. Why do we waste effort on this? Is it just scape-goating?
Children are well-informed about gay lifestyles from the time they are in kindergarten and it isn’t the schools teaching it. Its classmates, playmates, and society in general . These elections and associated controversies bring it on.
It’s never passed in any state where it was put to the people for a vote, so, I don’t think it has anything to do with Massachusetts.
Massachusetts has always been a progressive state, since the founding of this country.
It will just take longer for the other states to catch up.
Homosexuals cannot marry; marriage is for people of different sexes, for the 100th time, they can however enter into a civil partnership.
Democracy is rule by consensus, apparently in those other states, the general consensus is that gay marriage is not right for the state.
Oh COME ON! Do you seriously believe that being gay is just about sex?? Do you seriously buy into these stupid, stone-age prejudices???
Gay couples aren’t any different than hetero couples – except from being gay. Nobody said, that little children need to be taught about specific (gay) sex practices! But they have the right and need to be taught about homosexuality in general. If children are old enough to see, that mommy and daddy are married, why wouldn’t they be old enough to understand, that men can fall in love with other men and some women fall in love with other women??
Children are much more understanding, open-minded and mature about such topics as many adults in this country! If you tell a child: "you know, there isn’t only love betwenn men and women, but sometimes, people fall in love with someone from the same sex and it’s perfectly fine" the child will nodd its head and say "okay". Exactly BECAUSE these things are natural and normal, children usually see it as such. Many adults, on the other hand, have been brainwashed by prejudices and myths. 100 years ago, people believed, that black people were "dirty" and if you touched them, it would give you bad luck. Similarly, many people think today about gays and lesbians. It’s a shame, that at the beginning of the 21. century, still so many Americans are homophobic. I think it’s an absolutely great thing, that children are being taught about homosexuality. At least in Massechusetts.
P.s.
I can’t believe you’re calling me a "militant liberal" for fighting for gay rights. This is simply ridiculous. Would you EVER call me a "militant liberal" if I’d fight against racism or slavery or if I’d say things like women have got the same rights to work, study and become president of the U.S. as males do?? NO, you would not (well, maybe you would, but then, your just an idiot). But as soon as we start talking about homosexuality, you get ugly with me. And these so-called middle-road politicians are NOT middle-road. Because, if you say "well, I want gay people to have the same rights as heteros have, but let’s not talk about them in public, because that’d be embarassing" that is NOT okay. It is discriminating and very offensive. You would never say such things about black people for instance.
I am European and I have lived long enough in the U.S. to be able to judge, that in SOME social issues, you guys are simply still stuck in some kind of pre-medieval period. I’m sorry to say it, but that’s just fact. And open-mindedness towards homosexuality is one of these issues. Nobody in Europe would ever come on the idea of discussing about NOT teaching about gays in public schools. We do teach about them, because we see them as normal human beings who deserve exactly the same rights. In the U.S. on the other hand, there are still thousands of people that claim homosexuality to be some kind of disease. Already this is simply outrageous. If these "middle-road-politicians" claim such opinions to be OKAY, they are not middle road, they are being extremely stupid and intolerant.
I know, that I would be called an extremist for my opinions in countries like Iran or Saudi Arabia, but being called an extremist for supporting gays and lesbians by an AMERICAN is really freaking me out.
Partially, I remember reading books from 2001-2002 written by Savage and Hannitty that decried the teaching of homosexuality in public schools to children as young as kindergarten (Johnny has two mommies is what Savage Called it) That controversy predates the current Gay Marriage Fight…
I believe there was much more outrage at the time over the ways in which modern art was depicting/glorify homosexuality
Good for you. IT hasn’t passeed, because for the most part, the majority of the people don’t want it passed.
