But if you are truly unhappy and have discussed with him 'exactly' how you feel and there is still no change, then I would venture to say it'll never work. He also does sound as though he's very comfortable with you and says and does what he can to try to keep you around, maybe out of convenience as well. But at any rate, you should have a very long talk with him spell out exactly what you expect from him and what he can and will expect from you, and if after a given amount of time it doesn't change then it never will and that will indicate that it is time to go your separate ways for good.
