Do Bad Ratings or Reviews from my Ex-Employer affect my chances of finding a new job ?
Hi Friends,
I am Un-Employed right now. I have applying to many many job postings lately, but i am not getting any positive response. My concern is that, in company i used to work for previously, my relations with the Project Manager were not so good. My Project Manager was racist and he always ill-treated me. So now when my contract is over with the company, that Project Manager is telling everyone that my performance was not good. So is it possible, that some how he got this "Not Good Performance" black spot on my Record. I mean is there any system by which companies check an employees previous work history or performance.
Any help is appreciated.

Nearly every company will call prior jobs for references when they’re considering hiring someone. Some employers give very little information, like they’ll only confirm you worked there and in what time period. Some will give details, good or bad. It’s entirely possible your ex- project manager gets contacted by prospective employers.
It totally depends on the type of job or company that you are applying at. Some jobs will do very extensive background checks on new canidates, especially those in the financial industry, while others will merely check a reference or two and be done.
I’m assumeing you did not leave your project manager as a direct reference, so chances are his reference would not be used. And again it is Illegal for someone to give a bad reference, and usually if it is not a good reference will only confirm dates of employment and wages to avoid a lawsuit.
No, it shouldn’t but there is a slight chance that it might
Employers can no longer give any Information on why you left or were fired from your job or comment on your performance they can only give the date you were hired and the date you left.
