i want to bring my Betta home for spring brake. is there a safe way to bring him back?
he will be returning with me at the end of brake to the dorm. i will have a residence set up for him at my home, that will be safe for him and felines around.
it is a two hour car drive back in upstate new york.
i was thinking a coffee mug, cause i can put a lid on it, and keep him in the dark so not to scare him

HI, a 2 hour drive shouldn’t be a problem but I would recommend you transport him in his tank [assuming it's 3 gallon plastic tank or less] & lower the level & take extra water. If the tank is larger than 3 gallons &/or is not plastic then I would advise getting a small one to transport him. Several other things I would suggest:
1. Get yourself a battery operated airpump.
2. Remove all the loose & unsecured objects from his tank, if it has a removable filter remove that but place the media [foam] in a sealable container with enough tank water to cover it-this will preserve the bacterial colony
3. Secure the lid of the tank firmly with a couple of strips of tape-NOT around the edge of the lid but across the top & down the sides. You need to ensure you don’t block all the holes. Also if the filer is removable & leaves a large gap then tape across the gap.
4. The first thing you do when you get to your destination is re-build his home, then you can unpack your stuff!
You should be ok as long as you maintain his tank as level & still as possible. I would recommend you do a partial water change & not feed him the day before the move as he will be spending time without a filter so the less his water is polluted the better, have a great trip!
Coffee mug would be good as long as you have a SeALeD lid, unless you want fish water all over your car. um, just make sure to check up on him/her every once and a while, give it some air ya know? and make sure the mug gives it enough room to at least swim a little bit. But, i’m warning you, this might cause extreme stress for your fish, so be careful,
it is a betta it is on the store shelves with no fish tank or filter it will be fine just make sure there is no dish soap residue in the mug or the chemicals will hurt it
NO THEIR RILLEY DELACET
Go to the pet store and ask them for a plastic bags (the ones they sell fish in anyway)
you should bring as much of your fishes old water with you if you can, your fish will be leaving its nice bacteria rich water it calls home now for "fresh" water that doesn’t have all that good bacteria needed to keep a fish healthy, is it’s new home a fish tank? or a bowl?
by bringing as much of the old water as you can and adding it to the fresh new water it will be living in, you are at least adding a substantial amount of the good bacteria needed and you are giving your new fishes habitat a head start in producing the environment needed, by doing this extra work your making your fishes life that much more comfortable, don’t forget to add water conditioner to your fishes water, ALWAYS!
you have to get a bag and put the fish and the water in there then you have to grab the top and make sure thier is no leaking air then put the rubber band on top and that should last for 2 hours
Actually.. if you have the little cup you probably bought him in, that works great. They live in there for weeks before you buy them, so it’s no problem sticking him back in it for a few hours. That way you can put him in a cup holder or something.. just make sure you don’t forget him in the car!
If you don’t have the cup anymore, any type of plastic cup would do. Or the coffee cup, too. Just make sure whatever you transport him in has a lid.. not just something set on top of it, but an actual lid. They tend to get somewhat antsy when they’re put back in the cup (especially if they’re accustomed to a much larger aquarium, not a bowl), so better be safe than sorry. You wouldn’t want him jumping out on the trip home.
