Am I misunderstanding him? i went to visit a church last week, i’m mixed, i was the only one with color there.
i know the preacher’s a good man and i believe he’s saved. but he was preaching about how the saved is mixing with the unsaved and becoming worldly just like them. he said when he was young the whites couldn’t stand it that the blacks were allowed to start going in the same places as them. then he said, but it happened, now they got mixed marriages. then he said, now i’m not here to throw stones at it.
do you see it as him comparing mixed marriages to saved people mixing with the unsaved. do you think he’s saying mixed marriages is wrong? because God has no respect of people, and if mixed marriages was so wrong, then why did God strike Moses’ sister miriam with leporsy for making fun of Moses’ mixed marriage (King James Version Bible The Book Of Numbers 12:1-16)
i just wonder if i took him wrong. thanx best answer will be chosen.

I usually do not touch subjects as this. But here is a short answer.
That is why a lot of people do not go to church anymore. Some preachers do not preach the bible but what they want to. God made everything in different colors if he only liked white then everything thing would be white. But he love many colors. That preacher he is partial, he is saying it in a subtle way. Ask him to SHOW you where in the bible it says that. Betcha he won’t have a answer. Because it is something HE is saying. You should always let the bible do the talking and make sure everything you say comes from the bible, that is your proof.
Simple sayings and bad doctrine is not saving but only belief in God and a life that is called charity.
http://www.mechanicsburgnewchurch.org
it says in the bible to mary someone equaly yolked
I think it was a very bad analogy. You are right about God having no respect of persons. other than that saved should marry saved.
Preachers are just people with a job to do. There are good ones and bad ones. Sounds like yours is probably an old prejudiced jerk. This is why I don’t go to church. I don’t like the advertising.
No…I think you read him right….I’ve met a lot of baptist ministers down south who are every bit as prejudiced as a Klan member.
He could have come up with much better analogies to express his point.
I had a little trouble understanding the question, but no, I don’t think he was saying mixed marriage is wrong, but if he was, you obviously know that God doesn’t think that, so in the end it doesn’t matter what your preacher thinks of you…only what God thinks.
No, you’re not wrong. He’s an idiot. He might be a "saved" idiot. But he’s an idiot. Remember, being saved doesn’t make you God. I know, I know, that’s hard for "some" fundamentalist Christians to understand, but it’s true. Many, many religionists, regardless of the faith or the God they presume to follow, are biased, unintelligent idiots. God will save them too. Don’t stress over the foolishness of man.
It’s real simple. If you go to a church and you’re the only one with different color skin then you’re in yet another waspy version of a WACO COMPUOND!!!!! Just leave and forget about it. Life is too short for that bullshit.
yea i think you took him wrong. I think you are hypersensitive to this issue. The saved should not mix with the unsaved because the unsaved are probably doing unsavory things that the saved should not be part of. If the preacher is guilty of anything it is of making a bad analogy. You need to be yourself and your whole life people are going to talk about you and you need to be able to go on living your life and be yourself.
Mabey it is because of his background and how he grew up he probably didn’t mean any harm by it but I understand why you are kindof mad I would be to.
preasher guys is weird. lol. my church is really diverse. we have fillipinos whites and blacks. theres nothing wrong with mixed marriages. the bible says that we should like stick to people of the "same yolk". to me that just means like.. dont put yourself in a spot where your tempted to sin i.e. a saved person marrying an unsaved person. i don’t believe that kind of marriage is a sin… just not a good idea. if you’re out of temptations way, its harder for you to be tempted to sin.
I’ve heard preachers speak against mixed marriage from the pulpit. I am ashamed to see "men of God" use the pulpit to spread their own prejudices.
Hun, the same God Who created daisies also made roses, and violets.
The same God Who made me, also made you.
Be proud of who you are. God is.
In the context you pu it in it does sound like he is looking down on mixed marriages……..
Pray for his heart to be enlightened………….and for God’s true love to shine into his soul.
Just goes to show how wrong Christianity is!
I didn’t hear that preacher, so don’t know what he meant. But I do know that Jesus Christ is no respector of persons. I know that Jesus doesn’t care what color you are. I know that God made red and purple and yellow and white flowers and tall trees and short, fat bushes. I know He made birds and fish in almost every color you can think of, and made animals in every shape and size and many colors.
I think God loves variety. It would be boring if we all looked the same. And God doesn’t have favorites. To Him, I think ‘Kids is Kids!’ : )
The Bible says not to be unequally yolked. Many preachers say that means races shouldn’t mix, but I dont think thats what it means, it never mentioned race, as a matter of fact, race is meaningless to God. It more likley means, like your preacher was saying, that unsaed people should not mix with the unsaved, when it comes to marriage. It makes it easier for someone to lose faith, stop going to church, get more into the world, if their spouse does not support them in their faith.
Now, its possible your pastor may be a little racist, and threw that in there too. If you think he is, look for more clues, you may want to find a new church.
Since I wasn’t there to hear HOW he said it I can’t be sure, but the fact that he even brough it up in the first place and then tried defending what he said by saying that he wasn’t there to throw stones, sounds to me like he is against it. It’s too bad that people are still thinking like that. My husband and I are a mixed couple so I know what it’s like to be "different". I wouldn’t worry too much about it though, as long as you have a good head on your shoulders and know what’s right and wrong then let it go. He’s the one with the problem not you.
I don’t think he meant it as something that is wrong, but probably more of a visual representation-type thing. Comparing the concept of becoming "yoked with an unbeliever" and the mixing racial marriages, but not the morality aspect. People can visually see the mixing of races, and can understand the "mixing" of spiritualities more visually that way. I should hope he did not mean to imply the moral implications of saved/unsaved marriages to mixed racial marriages.
I have to admit, that is a poor comparison and choice of words for him to use.
It sounds that way to me. Maybe your preacher wasn’t aware that you were in the audience. Ask him if that’s what he meant. I’m sure he will come up with a mealy-mouthed answer. Maybe you should be looking around for another church for your spiritual guidance.
I think the preacher may have been a bit misguided. Just because he is a preacher does not remove him from the human race so he will make human mistakes as we all do. It may have simply been a bad comparison on his part but the best thing for you to do is to go to him and explain to him that he sermon offended you and ask if he realized what he was saying and how you took it. He should care about your feelings and make a public explanation for his sermon as there were many other people who follow his sermons and may have been mislead but the information he released. If he isn’t apologetic them you need to leave the church as that is unacceptable.
He is showing you how judgemental and hypocritical religion is. I honestly do not understand how any clear thinking woman of colour can support religion when it basically says you’re not accepted. Screw that.
It’s better to be mixed than MIXED UP like that preacher is. His comparison was very wrong and showed what was in his heart. God has no problem with people marrying people of a different color. He has a problem with believers marrying non-believers. The preacher made a mistake, whether intentional or not. Hang on to God’s Word, not man’s. That way you will know the TRUTH, and the truth will make you free.
It sounds like the preacher was using a bad analogy to make a good point. His bad! Mixing races is not the same as mixing theologies.
Mixing races: NOTHING WRONG.
Mixing theologies: VERY WRONG.
Perhaps you should ask him about this. He may not realize how he came across to the congregation.
I think he just used his words poorly… at least I hope so. It is wrong to be mixing with the pleasures of the world because darkness (nothing to do with skin color) has no no place with the light. We can be corrupted by sin if we continually flirt with it.
2co 11:2 For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.
2co 11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
2co 11:4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.
Ac 20:28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
Ac 20:29 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.
Ac 20:30 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them
Mt 15:7 Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,
Mt 15:8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
Mt 15:9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
SWEETHEART IF HE WAS SAYING WHAT YOU THOUGHT HE WAS SAYING THEN HE WAS SO WRONG!
He was just eing a biggot and expressing his religion’s biggotry, he is a racist just like his god
I really hope that he was not preaching on a problem with mixed marriages! There is nothing wrong with that or any 2 races marrying. There is no place for bigotry in a church!
It sounds like his message just wasn’t received. Remember that preachers are human, not celestial. While a Reverend/Preacher is supposed to be guided by the holy spirit they mess up too. I am thinking that in his message he was trying to make a comparison of how an interracial marriage WAS considered wrong and now it is okay SO if the unsaved marry the saved one day it will be considered okay. Not a real good comparison if you ask me and to be honest, I think that is fine as well. If you love someone enough it is just one difference and no 2 people have everything in common. Unless you are extremely devout in your faith then you may want to reconsider.
If this is a church that you are thinking about attending regularly, you may want to bring it up to hear his answer. Or read his body language when he responds.
And as you are the "only one with color there" that is unfortunately too big of a problem in churches across America. It seems that there is a natural segregation in Churches. But that is why certain Churches are dying out. Please go somewhere you are completely comfortable and know God just appreciates your interest and your desire for him!
Here is my question to you. Are you a child of God? If you are (I believe you are) Then you should be right there praising God too! If a man says that a mixed marriage is wrong and an abomination then I would say the following, "Why are you judging that marriage between two people who love God?" God has the only true power to lay down judgement and that man should show love to everyone.
Look, in the church I attend there are men and women from different races that marry and they are happy. We in the church support that marriage and we think it is awesome that a man and a woman come together as one flesh! That is so cool!!! So do not dispair – just because you are mixed does not mean a thing! Except your mom and dad loved one another and you are an expression of that love!!! Also remember God loves you and if you were the only person on this planet God would still send Jesus to die on the cross just for YOU!!!!!
I would also do the following, do some serious research on marriages and christianity. If there is a definite law by God that states mixed marriages are wrong or a sin then I would have to go with what God says. Unfortunately, I have yet to see a verse that states mixed marriages are bad or wrong!
God Bless Ya and have a great week!!!
What the God tells us through His word the Bible is really the only thing any of us need concern ourselves with.
The Bible says to "Marry only in the lord."
Quite simply put, christians are only to marry other christians. It does not say anything about skin color in marriage. But, the Bible does say that God is not partial one to another. All men are equal in His eyes.
Acts 17:26: “[God] made out of one man [Adam] every nation of men, to dwell upon the entire surface of the earth.” (So, regardless of what races make up a nation, they all are offspring of Adam.)
Gen. 9:18, 19: “Noah’s sons who came out of the ark were Shem and Ham and Japheth. . . . These three were Noah’s sons, and from these was all the earth’s population spread abroad.” (After God destroyed the ungodly world by means of a global flood in Noah’s day, the earth’s new population, including all the races known today, developed from the offspring of Noah’s three sons and their wives.).
Acts 10:34, 35: “God is not partial, but in every nation the man that fears him and works righteousness is acceptable to him.”
(Deuteronomy 7:3) And you must form no marriage alliance with them. Your daughter you must not give to his son, and his daughter you must not take for your son.
(Deuteronomy 7:4) For he will turn your son from following me, and they will certainly serve other gods; and Jehovah’s anger will indeed blaze against YOU, and he will certainly annihilate you in a hurry.
(Nehemiah 13:25) And I began to find fault with them and call down evil upon them and strike some men of them and pull out their hair and make them swear by God: “YOU should not give YOUR daughters to their sons, and YOU should not accept any of their daughters for YOUR sons or yourselves.
(2 Corinthians 6:14) Do not become unevenly yoked with unbelievers. For what fellowship do righteousness and lawlessness have? Or what sharing does light have with darkness?
So, I think it’s easy to see, God’s viewpoint here is as long as you marry a fellow believer, it really dosen’t matter if his/her skin is purple.
whatever a priest or preacher says in a sermon in a mass… that doesn’t mean it’s 100% factual…. if he quotes it from a bible, than there are many interpretations to it… The Lord doesn’t look at races, doesn’t even look at physical attributes or characters… he looks at a person spiritually. i meant, it’s his (the Lord’s) judgment not anyone who would be saved and who wouldn’t… not even the pope could say who would be save for that decision is upon the Lord’s.. sad to say, all of us are humans and have different interpretations of everything, right? thus, a misinterpretation often leads up to misconception and errors… but that’s okay… we’re but human and nobody’s perfect. so just be yourself and cling to your faith as deeply as it must be for in the end, we would know who would be saved…. = )
I would say this preacher should check himself.. I say whatever your heart tells you is right is when it comes to this situation..
glad to hear you tested the spirits because that’s what the bible teaches us to do. To talk about mixed marriage to try to explain about saved and unsaved people was very wrong. When the bible speaks about the saved and unsaved, it’s talking about being unequally yoked. What it’s actually saying is a christian should marry a christian and not a non-christian. But if they do marry (the christian and non-christian) it say not to put them away because the non-believer is saved thru the one who is. The preacher is a racist. Don’t be equally yoked with him. I’m native american and everytime I walk into a church like this I get these "what the hell is he doing here looks" HA! So, I don’t go to church anymore. As soon as these people say Hi and glad to see you, After church services they go back to their old racist ways. I see them on the streets and wave and they are like "who the hell are you waving at?" Ha!ha! I walk up to them and want to have fellowship with them and they like move to the other end of the parking lot. What did I do? Does my color scare them? ha,ha,ha!. I was baptised in the name of the Father, The Son, And The holy Ghost. And they still come to me saying they want to convert me. Whne I tell them to what and explain to them that I am already a christian, they are not satisfied with that. What they are really saying is " I want to drag your butt to church and show people that they brought a heathen in so they can save me. I can go on and on with this but I think you catch my drift. I’m still saved no matter what they think or say. I hope you find the right church soon. I still listen to the preachers but only on television. This way I don’t see the negative loooks in the churches and hear the negative talks afterwards. Yeah, he was doing good until he brought up the part about blacks and whites. Don’t worry us natives get them too.
As far as saved and unsaved marriages, it would be hard for the marriage to work. But I say in rare cases it might and even the lost person would get saved. Now as far as you being mixed color and marrying a white or black there is nothing wrong with that. Jesus didnt see color when he took the word to everyone, he saw lost souls. I wished alot of people would stop seeing color and see the person. I was never raised to be bias, but it sure is all around me. I think that the pastor was trying to inform about the dangers of being unequally yoked, but I know many woman who have unsaved husbands, not sure if they married before one was saved, but their faith has only growed because they want their husbands saved so badly. I also think he touched a little on himself being bias, but I could be wrong.
I am afraid that you probably did not misunderstand this preacher. There is a "theology" ( I use this word very loosely) which teaches that blacks are from Ham, the cursed son of Noah. Whites, however, are not in that cursed lineage. They try to substantiate this by claiming that only Ham’s decendants moved into the African continent. I’ve seen them pull verses out of context to prove this point, but, honestly, it is such an ignorant and unlearned idea which they choose to believe that I don’t even try to show them their error any more. Somehow, it seems to make them feel better about themselves. I’ve never heard anyone teach that colored people cannot be saved, but some are very close to it.
I write this with great sadness. Over and over again, we are told in scripture that we, Christians, are to be of one mind; we all make up the Body of Christ; we are all needed and important; we are to love each other, and we are all equal. This type of teaching only splinters the church. It does not truely edify or build up anyone. Instead, it causes dissention, dischord, hautiness, pride, and arrogance. It does not show true Christian love. Instead, it puts others down.
In Ephesians, Paul stated that in Christ, there is no Jew or Gentile. Instead, people are made into new creations. They become Christian!
I am white. And, I can only appologize for the ignorance you had to endure. I’m sure this preacher had good intentions but, untruth is untruth no matter what the intent! I ask that you not be angry, but instead, pray for these people.
It’s interesting to me how people of the same faith (you and that preacher you mentioned)……and who believe in the same Bible……can have such opposing points of view on the SAME subject.
Can one of you be "right" and the other "wrong?"……maybe your both "right"…..MAYBE your both "wrong?"
You quoted from the Bible itself, so it’s obvious you’re a religious woman. But that preacher is a "saved" man of God (according to you, anyway).
And because you believe the preacher is a "saved" man of God, you begin to doubt YOUR OWN beliefs!! Don’t you KNOW what the truth is regarding mixed marriages? Better yet, don’t you "feel" what the right answer is regarding mixed marriages?
Your answer, right now, should be "YES!"
Of course you do!
Listen sweetheart……the Bible, and it’s many verses, are obviously open to many interpretations (you and that preacher certainly has a different interpretation on the same subject), but what counts is what YOU (as the individual) takes from the Bible that which makes YOU feel good about yourself, and YOUR world.
The preacher, wether he’s "saved" or not, is just a human, and as such, he’s prone to make mistakes, just like the rest of us.
It doesn’t help that the Bible can be interpreted differently by different folks……but at the core of YOUR beliefs should be the word of God – as YOU feel it should be interpreted pertaining to YOUR life.
Don’t doubt yourself, nor your beliefs! You’ve let someone else briefly sway you from your beliefs. He’s cast doubts on your beliefs. But why? They’re YOUR BELIEFS after all! You should be unwavering in YOUR BELIEFS!
There’s no "misunderstanding"…….c’mon babe, no matter what you hear on the subject, you KNOW what the truth is regarding mixed marriages. The truth is that It’s what YOU believe what counts!
