An ex-girlfriend opened a credit card in my name, what steps need to be taken?
I was contacted by Bank of Omaha telling me that my credit card was overdue and 3 months late, which I do not have a card through them. I then spoke with 2 supervisors that told me to file a police report, which I have done. How long does the report usually take? The exgrilfriend in question has a very troubled life, dated her for pity, originally moved in with her to help with bills, money, etc. She apparently has a copy of my DD-214 military discharge papers, which has my social on it. She was in jail before for a Felony – Grand Larceny. Will the police report charge her with identity theft or fraud or do I have to go to court to persue that? (WV it’s a felony crime) I think that jail would be the best place for her right now. The credit card company confirmed that there was an authorized buyer listed on the account, my ex.
What steps do I need to take now to get this completely resolved? I have contacted the credit card company and the police. I have checked my credit report and nothing has shown up so far.
(thank you in advance)

See if you can get a fraud alert put on your credit report since your ex has your social security number, she could apply for anything, at anytime. A fraud alert will notify you whenever someone applies for or tries to access your credit report. Talk to the police and ask them what do they need from you to help your ex get prosecuted for identity theft. Whatever the amount owed on the credit card is and if you have to pay, take her to small claims court to make her pay.
Don’t forget to notify the social security administration.
The next step to take is don’t get involved with women you feel sorry for. Ever.
Advise your bank and the local credit bureau that you may be the victim of a potential identity fraud; otherwise, you are just waiting for the police to finish.
I hope first thing you might have done is reporting the entire episode with credit card company as well police, as result of that you might not get any further dues on your credit cards, secondly persuade police to take immediate action against your Ex. And thirds take a lesson from this incident that do not trust anyone so easily (not even you girlfriend) to share account information.

You can file a felony case. But first you should find a good lawyer.
I agree with Ammie. These things happen. We must therefore always be cautious. Don´t trust anyone your account information. Get a lawyer. Good luck and i hope your ex will learn a lesson.

Wow, I did not know this. Thank you for telling me.
On the other hand, did YOU know that if you don’t have the right credit card you can ruin your finacial record. Yeah, it’s very dangerous.
I can’t understand how did she took credit card in your name as the bank wont allow any other person to open account other than you. Anyway if it has accidently happen, you should first inform the bank with your real identity proofs and give them a request to close or freeze that account. You can sue that exgirl friend for cheating you.
Yes you will have to file charges against her and when they catch her there should be a court date set and you will have to go to court and the state will press charges and that is when she would be sentenced to possible jail time. Seeing that she has done this before it doesnt seem like it looks good for her. She will probably have to go to jail and pay the money back to the credit card company. And hopefully they wont hold you responsible for anything.

I have not come across such a case, But first you should find a good lawyer.
I have no idea about this as it is my first time that i have come to such case. Better to consult with your bank or local credit bureau for further process.

My friend is worried to death because his ex girlfriend is trying to change their one year old daughters name without his permission. He is a good father the ex girlfriend and him just dont get along. Is there anything my friend can do?
You need to dispute that right away under section 605b of the FCRA. Get a copy of a police report and send it in. Should take 5 days to remove if done correctly.
I want my ex girlfriend back. But it seems hopeless. She wont talk to me, and I havent talked to her in 3-4months, but I miss her. Last times we talked we had horrible arguments and insulted eachother. Now she seems to have mooved on, and wants nothing to do with me. Does anyone have any tips on what to do?

Reporting the case to the local law enforcement agency will be a good place to start. You’ll need to get a copy of the police report to validate the claim that you are an identity theft victim. You will also need this to request a freeze on your credit report, which means your ex girlfriend won’t be able to make any more credit card applications under your name because they have to access your credit history to approve the application.
I have a small requirement that my customers are required to get an alert when thier credit cards are used as and when. Now I created an application that enrolls my customers willingness to get a alert when they purchase using their credit card.
