I have been guilty of doing the same thing (so I am told). You are doing the right thing in respecting her space. What you might do when she returns is to tell her that you are a very sensitive guy and showing your emotions is just second nature to you but that you will try harder to honor her wishes because her love is everything to you. Ask her to let you know whenever you are being a bit too clingy and you will stop. As hard as it will be for you, you must let her set the tempo of the relationship. Take the cues from her as to when she is in a cuddling mood vs when she wants a little distance. I hope things work out for you both! This is rough. It looks like you're on the right path with the realization that you need to give her the space she wants. Pleading and begging to get back together with her just comes off as needy and clingy, which is exactly why she said she broke up with you. So you need to do the opposite of clingy and needy. You need to (from her perspective) vanish off the face of the earth. She will be left wondering and guessing what happened to you and how you are doing. It's probably good that it's the holidays right now, since people tend to get nostalgic for the past around this time. Wait for her to contact you (she eventually will). Then just play it cool. don't ask her to get back together with you. Just be that happy and fun guy that she fell for in the first place. Keep things light and fun and leave her wanting more. You might have to see her a couple of times and each time come off as that fun and lighthearted guy. Eventually she'll remember how great it is being with you, and she'll miss your relationship.
