Someone stole our German Shepard…How do we get her back?
Please help! Im so angry about this…My husband loved this dog and here’s the story…
November 15th we brought our German Shepard down to New Orleans to stay with my Father until January, we thought it was a good idea since we were moving. After about a week after leaving from New Orleans to go back home we kept calling my Dad checking up on our dog and he would tell us that the dog wouldn’t eat anything and that she was getting really sick. We called some more and then he told us that our German Shepard DIED.
IT WAS ALL BS!
My Dad just called me yesterday and told me the real deal about our dog, that she had gotten stolen and he said she must have slipped out of her collar.
When we were down in New Orleans we brought her to a Vet to get a MicroChip in her in case she did get lost or stolen. Im glad we did that!
How can we get her back? Its been almost 2 months since she has been stolen, well like a month I would say but close enough. How does the Micro Chip work? We have all of her papers and everything…I cannot believe someone stole our dog!
My Dad told all the lies about her being dead because he just couldnt face us to tell us the truth about someone stealing her. He feels pretty bad but I am very angry with him for not telling the truth. It was my first time giving my dad something like a DOG and sad to say, IT WILL BE MY LAST!!!
She was stolen/ got away in New Orleans. Its not a good area where we used to live so I dont think anyone will bring her to a vet and if they saw her they would just take her, sell her or possibly mate her. Ugh, Im so angry!

so he lied the first, time how do you know THIS is the truth.
dollars to donuts he sold her and is keeping the $$$
Unfortunately I don’t think you will ever see your dog again.
If she was stolen then obviously the people who took her are not going to get her microchip checked and return her.
Microchips only work if the person who FINDS the dog goes to a vet or shelter and gets the chip scanned, they can then find out your details and contact you to return the dog.
You can only hope that she somehow escaped and wasn’t stolen. Then someone may find her and get her chip scanned.
id you register the chip or just get it inserted?
Did the vet take down your details and get you to sign a form saying that the information would be sent to the national database?
When mine were microchipped the vet did not register the chip to my name, I had to fill out the forms and post them myself.
I’m afraid the microchip will only work if the person who has her takes her to the vet and the vet scans for the chip, or if she gets out and picked up by a shelter.
You can put ads out there and report it to shelters and vets, but sadly microchips only provide the information once they are scanned, and they wont be scanned unless taken to a vets or shelter.
I have heard of dogs getting stolen and the person taking it to the vet only to have the vet scan it and find them out, but it was often years after the event and not very often
I’m sorry. Its times like these I wish the microchip could tell you where the animal was.
The good news is that if she does turn up you have proof of ownership but if she has being stolen and not just run away, then I’m afraid the person who has her will probably be unlikely to take her to a vet or try and find her original owner:(
I’m so sorry
Nothing you can do!
Unless someone turns your dog in to the shelter or a vet (to have the Microchip scanned),
You can call the local animal control, shelters, vets and let them know that your dog is missing and see if he has been found.
btw its S-H-E-P-H-E-R-D
If she’s microchipped the dog can be scanned by local animal control of shelters or the vet. Contact your police department ASAP! Dog Napping is a federal crime. Give them a description of the dog, and tell them she’s microchipped. But 2 months ago this happened? I’m sorry to say but this could be an uphill battle. Now that microchip companies accept their competition’s chips, all the criminals would need is to have a microchip scanner and upload to it to a new company’s website and change the details.
I hope you find her and get her back.
Dont listen to all those people who say you cant get her back and you will never see her agian. hears what you have to do:
- Call the police they STOLE your dog thats a crime and the part that its your dog is kinda like kidnapping…
- call the local animal shelter in the area of were your dog was. They might find her.
- dont give up hope! (:
If the dog slipped its collar then it probably ran away and wasn’t stolen at all. I think your father is still lying to you. I wouldn’t believe a word he said.
It sounds like he had the dog tied up outside in the yard and wasn’t taking care of it properly.
Why would you leave your dog with your father for 2 months? It doesn’t take 2 months to move house.
My small dog was stolen out of my yard a couple of times. To make a very long story short, I didn’t have any luck with the local animal shelter in getting her back. Even when I knew where she was at.. they wouldn’t go get her. I had to call the police and have the officer go over there with her papers and picture to get her. She came back with her hip broke in two places from Blunt Force Trauma according to the vet.
Call the animal shelter down there and let them know she is missing. Call the vets in the area and surrounding area to let them know your information. Call the police and let them know that the dog was stolen. Post ads on the internet and explain the situation and in the ads say that she needs medicine and/or offer a reward. You can post ads on the internet in Craigslist, petfinder, and even yahoo. I sent out messages to my yahoo groups and was able to recover a dog that my husband lost when he went fishing in another town within 24 hrs.
Don’t give up. My dog was gone for 2 months before I got her back the first time. The trick is getting the information out everywhere. Someone out there might read your ad and know of a neighbor getting a new full grown dog and call you or their local shelter.
I hope this helps. Good luck
I’m thinking it’s much more likely that dad sold the dog as well. You may try reporting this to the police and see what happens, but it’s not too likely that you will get the dog back.
