If you had a big man made pond in the back of your property would you use it to swim in or just fish in it?
We are getting a new house on 2.58 acres of property and mostly woods, and way in the back, there is a big pond out there on our property, now the thing is that its all deep, like not really a shallow end, for like kids, would it be a good idea to use it for swimming in or just get some fish and fish or what, any ideas anyone…….Thanks

YES, I would use it to swim in or just fish in. I remember a pond near one of my childhood homes — it was actually a big bend in a stream that made a backwater. It was maybe a hundred feet across and a couple hundred long, but it was like a lake to us. In the summer we would head up there either on foot or on our ponies without saddles. Sometimes we’d take a lunch. We’d fish and fish and fish until we either caught a few good ones or were bored out of our minds. Then we’d jump in and cool off. No reason to restrict one activity or the other — there’s plenty of water for both, sounds like.
My two suggestions — (1) if you must stock the pond with fish, do it through your state fish and game unit, and (2) rope swing!
Use it for both!
Fish!
depends on where you live… if you lived here in florida i would be careful about which ponds you go swimming in as there is a good change a gator is also swimming in the pond… if your more north or west then i say use it for both… there isnt much do worry about.
if its clean use it for both if its dirty just use it for fishing
Down South where gators live–no swimming. Anywhere else, you can probably use it for both. Although, if there aren’t trees are rocks to jump off, your kids probably won’t use it much.
both
I’d fish in it.
1. I’m a terrible swimmer
2. i hate swimming in lakes and ponds after…the LEECH ACCIDENT
I grew up fishing and always around water and I never learned how to swim. Kinda sad.
So no, I definitely wouldn’t use it for swimming.
For fishing maybe. More than likely I’d stock it with sunfish and crawdads year round and rainbow trout during the winter. I do live in southern California and lakes here, trout are dumped in… but if I could somehow keep the water fairly cold, possibly keep trout in it full time. Big California bass love trout…
How deep is not really shallow and where’s this 2 1/2 acre pond located?
I’d use it for both along with duck and geese hunting in the winter.
