Is there a way to fix my broken window motor to make it roll up and down again?
I took my car to a crappy shop to get something fixed, and when I picked it up everything seemed fine. Then I got home and tried to roll up my windows – the back drivers window would not roll up and they are trying to charge me to fix it. Im not sure exactly what happened, but Id like to attempt to fix it on my own. Does anyone have suggestions on where to start? It is a 95 Land Rover Discovery, if that matters.

your first mistake was to take a Land Rover to a crappy mechanic. however, the window may be out of the track that it runs in. can you hear the motor running? if so,check the tracks. if not, it may be a fuse or relay-but i’ve never heard of one window being on a circuit by itself. other than that it may just be an incredible coincidence and the motor needs replacing.
Don’t mess with it!!. These window motors are complicated and sometimes require special tools. Can you hear the motor when you press the switch. If so…it may be the regulator not the motor. If you can’t hear the motor. It may be the switch. Try using the drivers switch and the door switch seperatly. These problems happen and only a conceindence that it happened then. Most garages are busy enough they don’t need to set you up to make money. Besides that would create a lot of unwanted hassles between customers. The problem is in the design. Costly and complicated equal big dollars for mechanics. 2.5 hr per door for window repairs. OUCH!
Check and make sure the child lock is not on.
