Why does my macbook pro run out of batteries so quickly?
Normally, I have it plugged in and chargin when I use it, but when I don’t have it plugged in, it runs out of batteries really quickly
. Ex- It had 84% batterie life, and was down to reserve power ten minutes later.
What could be the reasons for this? And what can I do to improve performanc?
I got it around July of last year

Wow Mac haters.
First how old is your laptop? if it’s a couple years old then the battery could be running on its last days.
Second you can check your battery’s capacity by clicking apple sign on top left menu bar, then go about this mac, then go more detail, the click on the power menu on the left then check the capacity of your battery. High = good battery life, low = short battery life, etc.
There are alot of free mac widgets out there that can help you too.
Try coconut battery and istat pro.
If your battery capacity is high and it’s only last 10 minutes the chances are you got a faulty battery. Go to one of the apple store and get a replacement if you’re under applecare if not then buy a new one.
cuz macs suck; get a PC!
Batteries go bad after awhile how old is the battery. A usual battery life is two to three years of use.
Mac is shit but really try looking at the performance. With vista, you can choose high performance or battery saver. Try looking into that
After awhile Lithinum Ions batterys start to hold less of a charge. only thing you can do is buy a new battery/
Have you had this macbook for a long time? If so, the reason probably is that after a while, rechargable batteries lose power signifigantly.
Check what’s hogging up so much RAM and battery life by going to the applications folder -> Utilities -> Activity Monitor. Every month or so you should generally let your battery drain completely, and then let it charge over night
call apple (you can only do this if you have applecare protection plan and you have had your mac for less than 3 years) and see if they can suggest anything. if you dont have applecare protection plan, go onto apple.com and on one of the apple advertisements there should be a chat now button. click on that and you will be able to speak with an apple representative and maybe they can help you. if none of these work, bring you computer to the nearest apple store (although they will charge you for the visit but it doesn’t cost much) and see what they can do for you
i had the exact same problem with my dell laptop, the battery life was 21 minutes. What i believe it is is that you had it continuously plugged in or if you unpluged it before its fully charged. For example, if you plug it in and charge it until its at 50% power then unplug it to change rooms then plug it in again, after doing this multiple times, the battery life begins to deteriorate. Also, when it becomes fully charged, instead of keeping it plugged it, you’re supposed to unplug it, let the battery die again, then re-plug it in.
The only solution i have is buy a new battery, and dont keep it plugged in unless the battery is dead. I know its annoying to keep on plugging and unplgging, but its the only solution i have.
Well since Laptop batteries currently only last about a year before they start going dead fast, I’d say you most definitely need a new battery soon. Http://www.needbattery.com has them for cheap with a 30 day money back guarantee and a 1 year full warranty.
Step 1: Reset the PMU, link below.
Step 2: Boot into Open Firmware by pressing Command-Opt-O-F at startup. Then type reset-nvram, hit the Return key, and then type reset-all.
Step 3: Run the battery down to the warning message (less than 7%). Quit all applications, don’t put it to sleep or use a screen saver, and wait for it to get dead as it can get (black screen). Plug in the power cord and charge it to at least 99%. Don’t mess with 85%. After it is fully charged, let it charge another half hour. Unplug the power cord and let it rundown fully again. Repeat this at least 4 times. Does that improve the battery run time? If not, your batteries are shot.
If this fixes it, avoid the problem of battery memory by not keeping it charged for hours on end. If you want to use it with the power cord for many hours, remove the battery. If the battery will be put aside for a couple of days or more, remove the battery when it is at about half charge, not at full charge or low charge. It will store best that way.
Do you run your laptop plugged in even when your battery is full? That could impact the charge of the battery.

I’m not sure the exact reason your laptop is losing its battery so fast but it could be to do with the age of your laptop. If you’re had your laptop for a few years then a change of the battery might fix the problem.

I’ve heard that when you first buy your mac, you are supposed to completely drain the battery before you give it another full charge. I’ve also been told that you should keep doing this when you are using it thereafter, buy using the laptop until the battery drains, THEN plugging it in (and unplugging it again after it’s fully charged). Did you do this throughout the time that you had your computer? I’m pretty sure you can just buy a new battery from mac, or perhaps you still have a valid guarantee? Good luck!

u should make sure to wear the battery down to 0 before charging it up to 100 percent again. it dud be possible that ur torchering the battery.
