Magic Chef fridge making a tap-tap sound, what’s up?
This fridge from the beginning doesn’t keep the food in the fridge section cold at all. We put a gallon of milk in the freezer with the number 7 setting , 8n is the highest and it doesn’t freeze the milk half the time. What could be causing this tap-tap sound? We shut off the fridge at night because we can hear it, it’s not awfully loud but it is noticeably.

Does this unit have an ice maker that isn’t hooked up to water? If that’s the case it may be trying to fill the tray and all you have to do is turn off the ice maker. I agree with making sure the coils are clean. If they are dirty it won’t cool effectively. Also FYI a fridge in an unheated garage won’t work properly if the temp in the garage drops much below 50 degrees.
The tap tap sound is usually the sound of condensing water dripping into a drip pan under the fridge. So unrelated to the coldness issue. You should consider pulling the fridge out to make sure the coils on the back are cleaned off – if they are clogged with dust the fridge won’t get cold.
