My husband is going through the med board process, once your husband actually starts the process he will meet with a counselor from the VA (veteran affairs) and he will give him a rough percentage. Our VA rep told my husband not to bother looking at what the websites say because they are wrong 98% of the time, and I can tell you that the VA quoted us 65% as where the websites said 15%. BIG difference.
But like someone else said, your husband may stay in. It’s up to the doctors in the med board. We’re fighting for my husband to stay in,… but he can also tell his CO that he just wants out and they will push the med board along for him. Good luck.
Oh. And you can appeal the med boards decision with how much or what they give him in his discharge. The VA guy/girl should talk about that also, and he’ll get a peblo (med board counselor). The VA rating and the armys rating are completely different, btw.

I reccomend that you get a lawyer. It all depends on what caused him to have the surgery. was it a service connected issue or did he fall off the porch at his mom’s house over Christmas ? all these things are considered. get a lawyer privately. A good SSI lawyer has great practice when it come to fighting for a disability payment.
He might not get his discharge they could just reclass him. Probably looking at 10%. This will give you more info. http://usmilitary.about.com/od/theorderlyroom/a/medseparation_2.htm
Just completed MEB/PEB process after a 2 level spinal fusion. I was certain I was on my way out and thankfully I didn’t get the boot! But the percentage is based on flexion, extension and a whole lot of other stuff. I wouldn’t bother spending too much time researching it because it’s unlikely that you will find the correct answer.
