Magic the Gathering: Use for Bountiful Harvest?
I’m a newcomer to Magic and having looked at some online reviews of this card, see that it has a terrible reputation. Why?
Just to make sure I understand its use, you get 1 life for each land (meaning literally 1 life per land card), right? E.g, if I have three islands and two forests, I would get five life by using this card, correct?
If this is the case, why does everyone say this cards sucks? It seems like a must-have for green players.

For just one more mana, you can use Sylvan Bounty to get 8 Life (which is about how much Bountiful Harvest will likely give you in most situations anyway, and Sylvan has the option of Basic Landcycling if you get it in you starting hand. Or compare to white’s Wall of Reverence, a 1/6 flying defender that gives you life equal to the power of target creature you control at the end of each of your turns, and it costs one *less* mana.
The real problem is that you can’t play it early, and playing it late doesn’t give enough life to really make up for what your opponent can do to you in a turn by that point, and since Green doesn’t have much in the way of methods of drawing a lot of cards, it frequently will be practically a wasted turn.
It’s mostly hated because of such a high mana cost. There other alternatives like "Nourish" which requires only 2 mana and gives 6 life. I mean it’s not that bad of a card, but there’s better things to use in a deck.
No, it is as bad as they say it is. Life gain is not green’s focus, its focus is to get big dudes out quickly and beat the opponent down with them. There are much better spells green can have for 5 mana than Bountiful Harvest (Ex: Ant Queen). Plus, its not even good for a life gain spell. White has a 4 mana spell that gains 7 life.
hope this helped
