How do I get my dog come back quicker?
I have a Black lab thats a little more than a year old and when i let her out to do her business she won’t come back when i want her to. I live on about 20 acres of wooded land and she may be going back their so its not that she won’t listen. When she or our other dog come back they are given a treat and praise, but if it takes two or three calls for them to come back they are put in the cage. Which is better, giving them a treat or going to the cage? Or possibly another alternative method.

Believe it or not, some dogs are like cats. They’ll only do what you tell them to if they get something in return. I would give her a treat when she DOES come back. That way, she’ll want to come back to get her treat.
You’re allowing and rewarding disobedience by not enforcing the command – not to mention ending the exercise with conflicting results. They don’t know if they’re doing good or bad if you treat AND crate. Treat is reward, crate is punishment (or "bed time" – either way ending their game.)
No wonder they don’t come right away…
Put them on a long leash. Call their name(s), say the command ONCE (i would choose a new word to associate with "come" as you’ve allowed them to associate it with disobedience), reel them in. They sit, you grab their collar, and they get a reward. Turn them loose again and repeat.
I would give then fifteen to twenty minutes of free time in the home BEFORE crating them so they don’t associate the crate with the result of the command. They should not get ANY reward for not coming on first command (hence the lead to reel them in so they ALWAYS get the reward.)
The best thing that I’ve seen is to get a fairly long leash or rope. Shorten it up in the beginning (4-5ft), get some small treats or break some up. When your dog gets to the end of the leash give it a small tug, just enough to get her attention, then hold the treat out and call her back to you. As she gets better let the leash out longer and longer until she has gotten good at coming back no matter the length. Then she should respond the same on or off of the leash. This of course will vary from dog to dog on how long it will take but Labs are pretty sharp dogs.
hi i have a back lab to aren’t they just precious so anyway take them out and let them do their buisness let them run for about 5 minutes. After that call ‘em inside if they don’t come call them again. If it takes more then 4 times walk over take their collar and walk them inside. If you get tired of walking them inside train them. This is what you do, take your dog one at a time out side, make sure it’s an area with a fence, tell your dog to stay, walk away don’t run away walk, call your dog in a sweet voice kinda like come here puppy excited, if they don’t came try again, if they still don’t come shout " Puppy come here now", if you have to do that don’t give her a treat, if she come the first call give her a treat. Do this 30 minutes a day for 2 weeks and put effort into it your puppy will be trained in no time at all.
As soon as your dog heads your way, run in the opposite direction. Praise as soon as they come within petting distance. Another way to get her to come is to make it interesting for her, vary your pitch, wave you arms, jump around or do all 3!
Because dogs live in the moment, she is not able to associate the cage with not coming when called. Come is tricky because if you do discipline for misbehavior then the dog will not come when called because they do not want to be yelled at.
Be sure to praise EVERYTIME she comes, even if it takes 2-3 times
