What do I need to do to fix my break lights?
Sometimes when I step on my breaks, the lights don’t come on. It works some times and some times they don’t. What is wrong and what can be done to fix it? Is this an expensive problem?
Also, my hood won’t open. I was told I need a new cable. How much is this?
I drive a 1999 Ford Explorer with a V6 engine. Thanks

the brake light switch is bad or there is a wire loose to it, it’s on top of your brake pedal, as far as the price goes on the hood cable you will have to ask the dealer on that one.
up on top of your brake pedal there is a switch, it probably is bad, replace it by crawling or looking under your dash and follow your brake pedal up,
rebel probably a loose connection in your wiring. sometimes it’s the lightbulb itself. try replacing it cause it don’t cost that much. you would think it will either work or not work but it’s not true! personal experience.
Please don’t think of me as being stupid, but it’s time to bring your 1999 Ford Explorer with a V6 engine to a mechanic.
"Break" lights are supposed to break. If your problem is with your "brake"lights, you need to have the little switch at the end of the brake pedal replaced.
Another possibility is that the multi-function switch is going bad. The brake lights are routed through the mf switch because of the park lights and turn signals. If the contacts in the mf switch are starting to go bad, it could cause the brake lights to stop working.
