DISNEY Employees Not Allowed To Accept Tips?
At the Magic Kingdom last summer, I went to one of those face-painting/make-up booths in the street. I had a pretty big job done on me, took 45 mins to an hour. After I had paid for it, I offered the make up artist a .00 bill for a tip. He then took a step back and said that they are not allowed to accept tips. He thanked me for it but said that they cannot accept it.
I just wondered as to why this was so? I had no idea that they’re not allowed tips.

That is true. The only Disney employees that can accept tips are those who work in the restaurants/hotel/bar and part of the TIPs Program since it’s a common custom.
It’s a Disney motto that great service should not be tipped, it’s what you are expect to receive when you visit the resort. That’s why compliments are HUGE to Disney employees. Whenever they receive a compliment, they earn Disney Bucks like Mouse Moola. That can be turn in for prizes like See’s Candies, Movie Tickets, or Gift Certificates. It’s an incentive program.
If they do receive a tip, they are to donate the money to Make a Wish Foundation under the Disney Company. However, gifts are acceptable.
Probably because it’s company policy, and they don’t want to have to claim tips on their tax information.
to be honest, i’d accept cuz who knows when they’re gonna cut your hours. also cruise ship employees cant accept tips either.
i don’t know they don’t get paid that good and a 20 dollar tip man i hope i run in to you one day and you give me a tip lol j/k
have a good day
Well, geeze, they work in the most wonderful place on earth. Isn’t that tip enough?
Disney is the magic Kingdom. Accepting tips can create a bias with employees and guests. Large tippers would get better service than people with shallow pockets. Disney goes to great lengths to make sure that the guests relax and have fun, no pressure to tip is kinda nice.
Cast Members are allowed to accept tips if they are waiters/waitress at full service restaurants inside the parks. But they are the only ones who can, other cast members are not allowed to accept tips.
The best thing you can do is thank them letting them know they did a good job, and stop by Guest Services and write a complement about them. Just be sure you have the person’s name and not just "that guy who did my face painting".
Lots of businesses set up the policy that employees cannot accept tips. The reason is we do it at my company is that if it is a business that tips are not commonly given, the company is not set up to deal with the tax consquences/does not want to deal with the consequences. Technically speaking, when you fill out your taxes there is a spot that asks you if you received any tips which your employer did not report. But you know how that is! It creates possible IRS problems if you as an employer don’t report things properly. Places like restaurants are used to it and have a procedure in place for how tips are handled. Places like Disney World that rarely get offered tips find it easier to just have their employees say no.
FYI, if a cast member does an especially good job for you, you can go to the nearest Guest Relations location and ask to fill out a form – I forget exactly what it is called. But you can list the person and what they did, and they will get recognized later. You can also write a letter after your trip if you forget to do it while you are there.
yeah i work for disney been there for 7 months and i work in the food and beverage part and we arent even allowed to take tips thee are only three spots in magic kingdom that you are allowed to tip and even in there you cant tip over ten dollars.
