Well it sounds to me like Alex was in one of those situations where you like someone but not sure if its as a friend or stronger if I were you to get him back spend a while just being his friend it’s what he wants after all, then when things are a bit steadier so in a couple of months casually suggest it

Nothing you can do will "make" him come back. You can try reasoning with him and possibly find out why he decided he didn’t want to date you anymore and only wants to be your friend.
You can ask him why he changed his mind about having a relationship with you after he met your family, but if you have to "make him come back", then I think he is not worth having. JMO.

He’s just in for the $∑x. There is no way you can make him come back, it’s just his decision that he wants to remain single. You should forget about him, your to good for him.
