A tabloid published a nasty article about me, what should I do?
I am a historic novelist, and I try to write books which uphold certain standard of morality. I do not believe in sex before marriage, and I try to uphold my beliefs in my works. That is why, I think, I became a target of a low tabloid called "Daily Beacon". They publish scandalous stories and photos, and I ended there as well. It said: "The girls in her historical novels always keep their legs crossed until they’ve got a ring on their fingers. But her private life is rather different." They said that I had a lot of lovers and a "torrid past", hinted that I had countless night stands and sex in my Jacuzzi. "He latest Casanova, so far unnamed, is said to be a married man who’s been seen leaving in the wee small hours." It’s an extremely degrading, humiliating, and misleading article. I don’t have any lovers. I save myself for marriage. This article ruined my reputation and my book sales dropped considerably. What should I do?

Am afraid that whatever you do, those scandal mongers have thrown a lot of mud on you, and some of it will stick. You seem to be adept with language so write up your life style and compare that to this scurrillous attack. If you can afford it go to law, and that tabloid will be closed down, due to damages to be paid to you – and your lawyer. In such a case there are lawyers who will take on a case- no win no fee.
Move to Canada (:
That story sounds familiar.
Write to the editor and complain. I think it might be illegal to publish lies like that, and anyways, it`s nobody`s buisiness even if it IS true.
i say as humiliating as it may be ignore it. if they are not true tell people that ask about it that its not true.
If you live in the U.S i say take them to court, people do for things that are a lot less worse. That’s horrible what they did and it makes me mad just reading it. Make them publish something saying it’s not true, force them! Arg, that makes me mad. I hope you smooth this over!
u should demand to go no a talk show or something so u can prove to the world that the artical is made-up. Thats what celebrities do, and then everything is fine.
It’s America, sweetheart. Get a Lawyer and sue!
Call your attorney.
Now *I* have a question. Why do people make up silly questions like this and post them on YA? You are no more a published novelist than I am Angelina Jolie. There were a number of things that tipped me off, but the clincher was your assertion that your book sales have suffered because of what a tabloid wrote about you.
I *am* a published novelist, and if I got that kind of attention from a tabloid, I would expect my book sales to go UP.
Just sayin’.
You do sound like a writer though. You have a very good imagination. Cheers!
haha.. you’re funny
well dont worry too much.. people forget this kind of stuff sooner than you’d think
