basically, he has had a sudden realization, (rebirth) of his outlook on you, and his way of expressing his love for you is I spent my life this far on castles made of sand, tossed in the breakers in the palm of your hand, now i can finally stand
that basically means hes spent his life on unstable relationships (castles on sand will wither and be destroyed), and tossed in the breakers in the palm of you hand means, tossed aside, when needed, worthless. but now he loves you etc

it seems like a man who has alot of regrets in his life and he had hit rock bottom and is looking back at his life after he died killing himself to please other people,always thinking about othersand gets nothing in return.

He sounds like he’s had a rough life, at least through his own eyes. But, also he sounds pretty messed up. Side note: Use caution w/ this guy. Hope it helps, take care.
that is so sweet,he loves you,and he is trying to tell you he wants to be there always and that you can count on him when ever and where ever,you are so lucky,do me a favor and love this guy as much as he loves you.

The guy is repenting.
He is trying to make up for his past..to his ex girlfriend and more importantly to himself.
After his girlfriend left he finally understood all that she had wanted to say. Now he is saying that he has change and that he is waiting for a second chance.
Either this guy is the few chivalrous left or a braggart about the depth of his soul.
Well, the song is like a reminiscence, a mix of all feelings you have in love, expressed in the context of a car accident that puts the guy near death. It is the love which bleed your heart but which you crave anyway. The break-up psyche and resignation.
But I’m sure you’re more interested in the message of the real guy than the song’s. It means: I may get hurt, get broken by your love, but I love you anyway.
It’s up to you to decide it is sincerity or just the technique of picking an ambiguous song to puzzle a girl.
