How can anybody listen to Cesar Millan and not know he makes this stuff up?
Turn off the sound and watch the dogs. They are just scared of him. There is a syndrome called the "magic trainer" where an outsider can get a dog to do things the owner can’t just because the person is unknown to them. His show are highly edited and they don’t show you the bad stuff, like when he is unsuccessful.

"His show are highly edited and they don’t show you the bad stuff, like when he is unsuccessful."
Amen to that. You said it very well, short and sweet.
I cannot stand him nor his techniques.
I along with many other professional dog trainers who actually ARE certified and licensed and accredited do not agree with him and wish that those who watch him take it as entertainment and NOT as proper training advice.
I think that we are the last people on earth who do not have cable, but I have heard through another pet forum that he is a sham, and his methods are cruel. Can you elucidate further?
he’s not making this up, all his tactics come from using common sense (of which not many people have nowadays) some dogs are more difficult and that’s when he takes them to his compound to work with them even more
lots of people don’t have a clue about how to train their dog into a loving friendly pet
Oh thank heavens I’m not the only one to see through it. I have been saying he’s a sham for a very long time. The dogs ARE afraid of him and probably for good reason. What he does is completely against what any GOOD trainer would recommend. Making dogs confront their fears is the LAST thing you do. And what you say about an outsider coming in is correct too. I could probably go and do the same as he. I do have a connection with dogs though so I could probably do better.
While I agree with you about the shows being highly edited, I must disagree about him making things up.
First of all, there is so much that can be shown on TV, for there are too many people out there that think they can do the same right after watching a show. If he would tell and show all that there is to it, he would probably need to find himself a job to make a living, as his carrier would be over. Those who usually criticize a famous person in any field, IMO, are simply envious of others success.
I know of a dog, first hand, a rescue from Katrina’s disaster, who loved people but would kill any other living thing. The dog entered his program, and after three months of hard training, it became part of his pack.
No, it doesn’t happen over night, especially serious cases as the one I mentioned above, but it can be done by someone who knows what he/she’s doing, and he apparently does!
Much of what he says makes a lot of sense. The human *does* have to be the alpha in their relationship with the dog, and dogs are generally happy when they’re clear on the pecking order. Also, since watching "Dog Whisperer," I’ve gotten much better about walking my dog on a daily basis, despite that he can also go into the back yard whenever he wants, and it’s helped our relationship considerably. I now know that petting my dog on the shoulders soothes him more than petting him on the head. So there’s some good there, too.
I have been hearing a lot of references about this person, but I have no clue who he is. Yes I do have cable in fact, but I guess I rather sign my dog up for dog training classes to which I’m taught how to train my dog as to sit around and watch someone else do it on Teivision.
I know that the "magic trainer" thing might notbe the correct term or it might be I don’ t know, but it exist. My puppy won’t ever sit on the tile when we tell her to sit, but my boyfriend’s dog walker comes along with treats and say "sit" on the tile and she does (twice too). I was jealous.
As for the edit part, it’s Telivision all shows are edited, cut/pasted together. Have you seen the behind the scenes of the real world because if you did you know 1/2 the stuff show is edited to make it look like it happened that way. I assume it’s that way with this show too.
I’ve been watching him fr almost a year, and have actually used some of his techniques, on my nervous and sometimes dominant GSD. Most of the techniques have worked. Your right he makes it look easy, but it’s not. It takes him hours, sometimes days, and the families sometimes months to correct the bad behavior. I am a true believer that humans are 99% of a dogs problem.
"magic trainer"?? In 25 years teaching training classes I have never heard THAT one! LMAO!!! Must have been coined by the people that can’t train their dogs!
Trainers can train the dog because they have respect and good timing. The dog does things for the unknown trainer because she is authoritative and hasn’t spent years allowing the dog to be in charge.
"magic trainer"….. LMFAO!!!
It worked for bothof mine! They walk wonderfully on aleash now.
First theres nothing fake about it what you must remember is he spends 4-6 hrs or moe with the dogs but you only see 30 mins and yes he does show the bad and reports on digression.Second, there are many different training methods that can be taught to dogs of all breeds and Ceasar is only showing what he has had success with which many I’ve used over the last 20 years.Last, NO MATTER WHAT A TRAINER TEACHES YOUR DOG IT WILL NOT WORK IF YOU DO NOT PERSIST DAY IN AND DAY OUT.I’m a K9 officer and if I take a day off my rottie or shep will revert to old habits.Any trainer out there know there is more than one method and Ceasar’s success rate is a alot higher than most but dont be fooled into thinking that every dog can or will be perfect .
Ok, how about you and all these “magic trainers” lock yourselves in a room with the most aggressive Pitbulls and Rotties and prove to the world how YOU have this magic “connection” with dogs and will be able to keep them from tearing you limb-from-limb! Please, if Cesar were a sham I doubt he would have actually made it! –especially where HE is an “outsider” in America… He has saved countless numbers of people thousands of dollars from the “farce” trainers that tell their clients that it will take YEARS to fix whatever problem they have come to them with! and usually condemn their dogs to death by not having the patience (or knowledge) to deal with them. Just like it’s a continuous daily routine to successfully raise an infant to young adult, it’s daily maintenance to create and maintain a healthy balanced lifestyle with and for your dog. People and their arrogance and ignorance never cease to amaze me…
Inception got it right. And I can say that I have friends who were in on one of the Cesar shows in LA and they said it was just like you saw it. No need to say that unless it were so. They did not make the show just were the ones with dog (the one with the doggy wheel chair.).
If you were a truly secure trainer, you would have no reason to put another down. He isn’t a magician, although the show makes it seem that way. He’s stated countless number of times that this takes patience and practice, and you’re not going to get it right away. He also is NOT a dog TRAINER…he train the people that belong to the dogs…
And to bladedogsrule… “Making dogs confront their fears is the LAST thing you do”… Please elaborate on that…maybe I’m misunderstanding your statement. Fear is a natural response to situations which in evolutionary terms kept us/dogs alive by staying away from or fighting in situations as necessary. When taken too far, fear can actually hinder one from moving forward. It makes no sense to let that fear be, and let that fear control a dog or a person.
Just because you don’t use certain techniques, doesn’t make it wrong…there are different ways to do just about everything
Cesar is great! I’m a huge fan. He is so in tune with the energy of the humans and dogs and how that affects any efforts towards training and correcting unwanted behaviour. You should never be angry when you discipline. You are not “punishing”, that’s the key, .. you are correcting. My breed doesn’t usually have a lot of behavioural problems (standard poodle), but they can try to rule the roost if allowed. No more baby gates here.
Will continue watching!
Cesar Fan xo
It is quite amazing how carried away people get over stuff like this and of course, EVERYONE is an expert! But how many of you experts have your own show? There is nothing cruel about his methods, where that came from, I really don’t know.
Why are you people so bent out of shape? If there are 10 ‘out of control’ dogs, and he manages to help say, 3, isn’t that a good thing ? except its usually closer to 9 out of 10 that he helps.
Dogs are rarely the problem, it is usually the owners. Just a complete lack of understanding of a dogs needs leads to bad behavior. People always think they know better, for proof of that, all you need to do is read comments made by; bladedogsrule or Ch.OTCHMissGingerUDX30-VCD4.
Calm down people! The guy is good at what he does. Dog Trainers are more focused on rules, overpowering their dogs desires and staying in control or over controlling their dogs.
His approach is different. Focusing on the dogs needs and striking a balance. After all, you did take on a huge responsibility when you buy a dog. They are not there for your needs and when you have the time and energy for them. its about balance and living together. People give their dogs to trainers to make their lives easier so they have a submissive dog that does everything they tell them when they tell them. They have no time for their dogs needs, they just want an animal to do what they tell them. I see those dogs as being much more feerful of their trainers than I ever see with dogs that are around Ceaser. First, he satisfies the dogs needs, in turn, the dog returns balanced good behavior. As he has said many times, how do you, as a human, behave, when your needs have not been met ? Its the same with dogs.
I wish everyone would calm down, try and be a little more positive and stop being so aggressive. There are few people making comments here that need some behavioral training. People are so quick to anger and rudeness these days, its totally unnecessary.
