   There are many online and hard copy resources. Below is a good place to start. If you have a favorite play or author, start there. It’s always good to start with something you’re familiar with. Otherwise, read through the monologues and see what captures your imagination, what you can picture being, doing, saying, believing and eventually the characters you can become. Those are the ones to choose for your audition.

   There are many excellent source books for monologues out there. Your best bet is probably going to be to go to your library and find out if they have some books of collected monologues.

   Many of these books will have a helpful chart somewhere that gives you the age and gender of the character and the nature of the monologue.

   If your library doesn’t have any such books, your local bookseller almost certainly will. I know that both Barnes and Noble and Borders regularly carry this type of book. Page through some and read some monologues in the store before making any purchases.

   Of course, there’s always Amazon.com too. Just search for "monologue." You can use Amazon to see what other users have rated as the top books of monologue as well, which might aid you in making your choices.
