Should we bring back tariff protections that Republican Reagan lowered?
Back when Wal-Mart had their made in America slogan in the 80`s Republican Reagan did what the companies wanted him to do and lowered tariffs so that good can come into the US cheap from China etc. and here we are in 2009 with Capitalism failing to provide enough jobs. How do we change the rules for the companies. Are new tea party people not strong enough to throw overseas containers in the harbor? What if the Liberals and Conservatives got together, would we be able to lift the containers then?

No, we should do away with organized labor unions that coerce the companies who employ them and raise the cost of doing business to the point that those companies then find it necessary to look to overseas markets and work forces to produce their goods at a price Americans are willing spend.
No.
the global economy is more efficient without tarrifs, if the chinese can perform your trade for 1/20th the cost then its time to learn another trade. It makes absolutely no sense to protect these jobs.
If you want to start WW3, then yes.
The increasing protectionism of the 1930s was one of the main causes of WW2.
I think we should incorporate better trade agreements that require our partners to abide by US health, safety and environmental standards or those products face tariffs.
i wish…..they are misguided. too busy fighting for the Waltons to keep their taxcuts and be able to horde money, pay their employees as part time with no benefits. i wish they would ban together for america’s sake but sadly that’s what they think they are already doing with the teaparty’s.
We didn’t trade that much with China back in those days. It was Clinton who gave China "Most favored trading" status to them. They gave Clinton a bunch of campaign money after that.
As for tariffs, most historians believe that when Herbert Hoover imposed increased tariffs in order to help the US economy, it back fired since most nations retaliated.
No because that will not solve the underlying problems created by having competing nation states. We need to have a global coalition of workers demanding an end to exploitative conditions everywhere. That’s the only way to end the race to bottom in wages and working conditions.
