I have quite a few questions on vampires. Think you can help?
I really don’t understand this whole ‘vampire’ thing. I understand how ‘magic’ plays a part, but vampires are too much of a plot hole to be even classified as near human.
For example. How are vampires always beautiful? Does their skin magically transform into a thing of beauty once they’re a vampire? A zombie, another dead creature, rots. Why doesn’t a vampire rot? Is it something in their skin that keeps them from rotting? And, if they’re dead, why don’t they smell like death and decay? The vampires, that is.
Also, don’t dead bodies also carry diseases? If a vampire is walking around and touching things, shouldn’t a lot more people get sick from strange illnesses? Vampires are supposed to be hundreds of years old, after all. So, they would have older diseases festering on their skin. Furthermore, as the bacteria meets new bacteria, wouldn’t new cases of diseases come to be? I’m not an expert on bacteria and disease, but they seem like a walking cesspool of death.
Could a vampire ever be affected by human diseases, even though they can’t die from them? Like cancer. Or the common cold. I know the immune system would have to play a part somehow, and white blood cells would have to be involved. So, vampires might have not any immune system. Therefore, wouldn’t they always be sick?
Why is a vampire always rich and never questioned by authority? I get the idea that they would have old money, but there has to be someone in the family who makes awful decisions or is a bad gambler. Or, maybe, they have to pay the police all this hush money. Otherwise, they’d be constantly running from the law, which is also never mentioned. These things aren’t cheap. Especially living in grand homes and wearing expensive clothing. They have to pay for things. Like water. And electricity.
Speaking of water, do vampires ever bathe? I mean, even if they somehow don’t smell as if they’ve been dead for a hundred years, they would still smell after a few days after not showering. Why does no one mention that?
And, how can they be even classified as dead if they have human/animalistic needs? They need to feed off of human blood–I don’t care what you Twi-clones say; those fairies aren’t vampires. They have sexual urges.
Speaking of feeding, don’t they ever have to go to the bathroom? Even if all they’re doing is drinking, wouldn’t they have the need to pee? Do they really need every cell that makes up blood, or that is in the blood stream? Does the blood become fat and store? Wouldn’t that mean that there would be fat vampires? What about vampires that get constipated? Or have to always use the bathroom?
Just because a story is fantasy, that doesn’t mean it can’t have realistic elements. Look at the creatures and characters in Harry Potter. They have depth, and they’re realistic.
By the explanation of Irina, that essentially makes vampires the Mary Sues of the mythological world. Eventually, vampires would run out of young, pretty people to bite. Placing them into a separate category and giving them special rules that defy logic isn’t fantasy; it’s lazy.
If they’re even somewhat ‘alive’, they’d get some sort of sickness.
I don’t buy that money theory. Just because they’re vampires, that doesn’t make them geniuses. Eventually, someone is going to mess up. Someone is going to squander away billions.
But, having that liquid in them would have somehow awaken their bladder, wouldn’t it? And the storage of fats…

i’m afraid i cannot answer all of these questions, but if you’re interested in learning about vampires http://hellhorror.com/vampires/vlad_dracula/ hellhorror has some really good info. he only hing i can say is, whoever’s imagination created vampires, they didn’t really think things through scientfically. i have to give you props for this question- these are the things that keep me up at night hehe. well, either way, when you find clear, lucid answers to these questions, let me know.
If you’re going to ask questions such as these, you might as well question all of fantasy. Besides, that’s what it is: fantasy. It’s made-up; unreal. Unless you’re writing a sci-fi including vampires, then these questions have no purpose. Anyway, to think about the answers to those questions would take away the fun from the imagination.
Edit: Do you really expect scientific explanations for myths that are hundreds of years old?
Besides, if you’re going to argue every answer that defies your way of thinking, why did you ask the question? Sounds to me that you’ve made up your mind and looking to prove a point rather than receive feedback.
Oh, and you’re Harry Potter theory: How do you explain the magic? I know Rowling didn’t. "Where does the magic come from? Is there an unlimited source? Then how come you can’t bring people back to life?" You can dissect every little detail, but in the end you’re just being a kill-joy.
yea im not too much into vampire stuff. the only vampire stuff i like is Van Helsing, Underworld, and Blade.
It’s fantasy. It’s made up, but I can still answer all of your questions.
Most Vampires were once human, and I don’t think that the other Vampires or whoever turned them would want to bite someone ugly. Besides humans are always bitten young, and when they turn into vampires they don’t age.
They don’t rot and smell because they’re not exactly dead, but they’re not live either. That’s why they call them the undead.
As i said they’re not exactly dead so their bodies don’t carry bacteria like a dead persno’s body. would. The’re not alive either, so they don’t get the whole bacteria thing. I’m not a doctor or an expert, but they’re the living dead, and dead people don’t get those sicknesses, and they’re also alive kind of, so they don’t get the deseases a human would. They’re the living dead. They kind of get the best of both worlds I guess
They have money because they are so old, and earned knowledge over time. Enough to make them rich, and outsmart police, and everyone else. They do bathe like other people. It was shown in a couple of Vampire movies.
They need blood to survive, but they don’t go to the bathroom, because of their system or something. Once again I’m not a doctor, but you could ask one.
I hope that explains some of the things. It’s a fantasy. There are plot holes, like with any other mythical creauture. Just enjoy it.

This whole beautiful vampire, euro-trashy phase being pummeled down your throat by hollywood and the likes is just a product of “sex sells”. Take a look back at traditional vampire tales, and they do smell like death, or grave dirt, bad breath etc… They never used to be portrayed like they are in the stories you have been reading.
*Why are they always beautiful?: Sex sells.
*Do they ever bathe?: Really, stuff like that is “glossed over”, not really integral to any plot, old or modern.
*Just because a story is fantasy, that doesn’t mean it can’t have realistic elements: Vampire tales originated from a time when man thought the world was flat. ’nuff said. Plus look at how the modern Blade movies portray it, they have a very scientific view. It’s all dependent on the author.
*I don’t buy that money theory. Just because they’re vampires, that doesn’t make them geniuses: Immortality can make one very, very patient. What’s the rush?
As for all your biological based questions: That’s a matter of “artistic license”. The stories are “fantasy” and therefore are open to wide amount interpretation and customisable to better suit the individuals world.
My advice, is you need to put down the twilight and vampire chronicles books/movies (and whatever else you are basing your views on) and look for something else. Twilight is the literary version of a boyband, made for teen girls (and women who think like teen girls) to sigh over. A story about a vampire older than the normal human lifespan trying to bump uglies with a school girl (seriously a human would get charged and arrested) isn’t meant to be taken seriously by anyone capable of critical thinking. http://theoatmeal.com/story/twilight , for a good read (saves me ranting). Anyone who takes offence to that little review should check out http://theoatmeal.com/pages/retarded_emails, #3 on the list.
White Wolf publishing’s Vampire: The Dark Ages has several “stereotypes” that might suit your palate. The old b&w movie Nosferatu. Joseph Michael Linsner’s comics featuring “Esque” (be warned, his other vampires are the sexy type)… there is a plethora of literature and movies out there that do not adhere to this “sex sells” epidemic which has plagued the vampire myth.
I’ve always had a thing about vampires. I mean, I have always dreamed of being one since I was a little boy. The whole myth / legend / wives tale is fascinating. So naturally as a fan of tha undead nationality, I’m a huge collector of vampirical memerobelia, clothing, accessories, art, movies, etc.. Which is how I stumbled upon this article, Thanks for sharing…
The simple truth about real live vampires is that they don’t have fangs, can’t turn into animals, don’t fly, & don’t have the ability to control a womans mind just by looking into their eyes. The modern vampire is a serial killer that drains the blood from a body into containers. The blood is later used in rituals to empower themself. It’s said that drinking the blood of another human will transfer some of their life force to the drinker of it.
If you are of the true bloodline you will understand the following
sholaghaun nebacha deim leseuaht swalem dofa na-sea prekau!
neabi sanachu elda
Dracula ne XIII
You are trying to explain things scientifically when there is not an actual explaination for it. You just need to accept things the way they are and learn not to question them. Asking questions about things no one fully understands only makes people more confused and leaves them with more questions. Vampires, Witches, and other things among that nature are just people like us, but a little different. We just need to learn to accept things for what they are instead of trying to change them to make them like ourselves. We need to stop trying to explain everything, some things cannot be explained. No one will ever fully understand a Vampire until they become one.
actually most legends have vampires still living in their own graves. And usually there is one main vampire who keeps all the other ones up. And vampires came into legend from people who were scared of death. or lonely. Vampire legends date back hundreds of years. Some legends actually have vampires that die off after they seek revegue on their families or whoever. They are many of legends. All with very different stories.
Also things can’t always be explained away by sciense. They’re many things that can’t be explained away. They just are.
