WHY DID PHONE LINE GO DEAD WITH MY LINKSYS SYSTEM?
I have a linksys box that my phone line connects to which allows me to make overseas calls unlimited (I guess it’s like a magic jack). It has worked fine but all of a sudden the linksys box that once showed 3 buttons lit up (power, internet, phone 1), now only has 2 lines lit (power, internet). My phone line is completely dead. It was working just fine for the past 2 months now all of a sudden this. When I call that number it’s a busy signal. When people from overseas call me they say they’re going direclty to voice mail. HEEEEEEEELLLPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!

Troubleshooting will be needed to find the source of the problem. I suggest these steps:
First, ensure that all extension telephones are on hook.
1) Unplug the phone line from the router. Check one phone for a dial tone. If you now have a dial tone, reset the router and reconnect the phone line. If the phone line goes out again, there is a problem with the router.
2) If you were unable to establish a dial tone in the previous step, check the following:
a) If you have a monitored home security system which connects to the phone line,
disconnect it from the phone line, then check an extension for a dial tone. If
reconnecting the security system kills the line, contact your security monitoring service.
b) There may be a defective telephone or other device on the line which is leaving the line
in an off-hook state or shorting out the line. Disconnect each device one at a time to
determine if a telephone or other device has killed the line.
c) If you have DSL internet service, there may be a defective filter or splitter which is
shorting out the line. If you have DSL filters, remove each one at a time to see if the
line becomes available. If you have DSL, but no filters on each phone jack, you may
have a filter on the outside that may be defective. Contact your DSL internet service
provider.
If all else fails, contact your telephone service provider.
