How do I get back money that i loaned to my ex -boyfriend?
I let my ex-boyfriend borrow 1200$ on Wednesday, he told me he would pay me 400$ every Friday for three weeks. He broke up with me two days later. What should i do? That money was what i had saved up to buy my first car. I found out a few days later that he slept with his ex on Thursday and has another girlfriend right now. On top of that I only have half of my rent. I don’t know what to do i need help.

I’d say small claims court or blackmail are your only options

Sounds like you’re screwed. There’s no way to prove you gave him anything. You can try calling the police to see what they say, but I’m not sure there’s much they can do.

Did you have a written agreement? I’m assuming not. If you did you could probably get somewhere. But if it’s just a verbal agreement, I don’t think there’s much you can do outside of just asking him to pay you back. Small claims court could work, but you never know. It’s his word versus yours.
Take it as a lesson, don’t lend money to anyone. Not family, not friends, nobody.
You can try to get that money back, but you won’t be getting it back in the time you most likely need to have it by.
I would suggest that legally, you take him to small claims court for "Breach of Trust." But courts don’t move all that quickly, due to serious backlog of cases.
But I see no other way to get that money back. If you can, perhaps try to take out a loan from somewhere–perhaps a bank or a friend. If you’ve had a good record of paying, perhaps you can work something out with the landlord to hold off on payment for a while until you can amass the money.
It may even be as extreme as having to go ahead and accept being kicked out and moving to a smaller location or back in with family temporarily.
If he has any self respect he will want to pay you back, despite not being with you.
I’m sorry though, that sounds horrible… I hope he does the right thing, but if you have anything written or any third party who heard the verbal agreement, you can take him to small claims court.
Try to see if he will be reasonable first though.

get him to pay you back at least $50 even if you have to beg for it cause this will acknowledge he owes you money and get him to respond to the loan via e-mail, this is just as good as writing, watch Judge Mathis or any court show to see what you have to say and what not to say, show them the e-mail and the fact he paid you money toward the loan then smack yourself in the face for lending someone money.
Unless you have a signed promissory note, you’re up the creek. Your ex will claim you never lent him the money or that he already paid you back. Unless you can subpoena his bank records showing the $1,200 went in but never went out, you’re probably screwed.
Never do business with your friends or family. If someone needs a loan, tell them to go to a bank. If they say the bank won’t lend them money, that’s all you need to know. If a rpofessional lender won’t lend them money, it would be stupid for you to do so.
Call your ex-boyfriend’s girlfriend when he’s not there. Tell her you just found out you have a bad STD and wanted to warn him about it. At least he’ll get cut off.
This sounded like an interesting question. I have seen a lot of small court cases on the tv recently and it seems that you might be out of luck. Most cases I’ve seen relies on a promissory note or legal documents which supports the loan. That’s the legal outlook in my opinion.
In any effect, I don’t think you should loan out money you are not willing to loose. If your rent didn’t deeply depend on the money, I would of suggested to just forget about it and mark it as a lesson learned.
I don’t think you would win in a court case. I think in some cases on tv, sometimes the character of the suspect is proved to be unreliable but I think that’s with other evidence too.

i did that same and i am taking him to court. he cost me to lose thousands. this guy doesn’t think he owes it but someone damaged his car and he said it was me and it cost him 400 and he wants to sue me. lol

I did the same thing but much more money. He is down to the last 5,000.00. This was money in the bank I had saved earning interest for my grandchildren. I need the balance back to pay for some oral surgery I need. I am sick about it. I have seen legal counsol. I was told small claims court, but even w/a judgement against him he may not pay. I have certainly learned my lesson, however, he didn’t run off on me, he just is a deadbeat. He has paid others, he owes tons and I guess I am not a priority. It sucks.
