How do I get debt collectors to stop calling me about my ex-wife’s debts?
I’ve been divorced for 2 years, although my ex-wife & I still keep in touch. For the past month, I’ve been getting calls from bill collectors regarding debts that she owes. I’ve told them that we’re no longer together, but they keep calling. Now, here’s the kicker: I can’t give them my ex-wife’s phone because she doesn’t have a landline. She is also unemployed so there is no contact work #. How do I get them to stop calling me?

Ross makes a good point. When collectors do skip tracing they will probably find you name, address and phone number. That is probably how they got your number in first place.
When they call tell them that they have the wrong number, also ask for the company name and address and follow up with a letter not to call you. Don’t make any threats that you are not willing to actually pursue.
If you are on the note, you are still responsibile for the payments, If not, just send a cease and desist letter.
Give them her mailing address and have them write to her directly. Tell them that if they don’t stop your calling your lawyer and pressing harassment charges on them. If you have caller ID don’t answer the phone when they call you.
If her parents are still alive give their phone number to the collection agency. If she has brother’s or sister’s give their numbers to them also. This way her family will get these calls instead of you!
My brother went through this also, they were calling him at all hours of the night. I told him give them your ex sister’s number, her brother’s number and her parents number. This way they will stop calling you about her debts that she owes. This will also get her family after her to do something now. He did what I said and it sure did work, her family was furious at her. They were getting the 1 am calls instead of my brother. It’s been 1 year now since he’s done this and his ex is still trying to figure out how her family got into the middle of this. He sister is not speaking to her now. It’s hot in her family, but my brother isn’t being bothered any more.
You’ll not be able to do it until you stop being financially associated on your credit record.
Until then it’s just a cross you’ll have to bear.
Pull get 30 people, a few cases of beer and go all Project Mayhem on them.
But yea, go with the cease and desist letter.
