Is MEPS for the Army really that difficult?
I am going in for MEPS today and i’ve read a lot of forums online. All these forums seem scary. Is MEPS really that detailed. When my father went into the navy in the mid to late 70′s MEPS wasn’t that thorough. If you with hold any little detail will the persecute you for it? A white lie. We are currently in a war wouldn’t the ARMY what as many abled young men and women? I have a self inflicted wound on my forearm back from when my ex self mutilated herself i did it to make a statement for her. I didn’t do it for any pleasure or to escape from anything. These scares don’t put a handicap on me. My dad tells me to say i cut it by breaking glass when i was little while they believe that it kinda doesn’t look like one im just praying right now and if i tell them the truth will they believe it sending me to get evaluating by a shrink. I don’t want to get kicked out cause of this or go to jail.
Alot of people say its a case by case thing and that theres no way to tell but could you please give me your opinions
OMG thank you so much i feel like you guys are all my friends

the most important thing to remember about MEPS is "if you say no, you’re a go". Don’t say yes to anything that’s incriminating or that will fail you. If you feel the need to say yes… then do NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES say yes without telling your recruiter about it first and hearing what he has to say. DO NOT! if you are serious about joining the Army then you CANNOT DO THAT!!! it is critical that you do not if you are serious about joining the Army.
Dude they tell you all kinds of things like you will go to jail and they check your records but they dont. Tell them you cut yourself doing something and thats that. MEPS is a joke
It’s really no big deal. CIA operatives are not going to swoop in with black helicopters and interrogate your family about how you got that scar on your arm. I have plenty of scars and nobody ever asked me how I got them…they just get documented for identification purposes. But yes, if anyone asks, tell them it was an accident. They have no evidence to believe otherwise, right? Why put yourself through more BS than you need to?
If your MOS requires "Top-Secret" clearance, then your past unstable behavior may come up–because your friends and family will be interviewed. "Secret" and "Confidential" clearance are basically just a record check and interview, not that big of a deal. So don’t even sweat it. You’ll be fine. : )
Thank you for your service.
dont join the army
be a leader and join the Marines
MEPS was a breeze when I went through. Honesty, I think you’re making too big of a deal about it. If they ask you how you got the scar, all you have to say is that it was an accident. However, if there’s a police report about it, tell the truth. Other than that, do tell the truth about your drug usage, legal or illegal. Have fun, relax, be prepared to fill out paperwork.
Just be prepared for a long and boring day.
What is so difficult, you answer the questions to the best of your knowlege and you sign some papers.
Thats a real groundbreaker there. 3 years ago at meps I was sent to Osut training@ Ft Benning like 5 hours later after completing all the paperwork at meps.
It can be like the first answer said , they try to threaten people with extreme jail time and prosecution
as long as its just a white lie and your not hiding anything major then your fine . The problem is some kids cant handle a little white lie get the MEPS system all over something and their military dreams are crushed. That’s their own fault for cracking under fake pressure.
MEPS for any branch is the same place. everybodies mixed. there were only 3 of us Marines, lot of nat. guard and army. a few navy. it is not difficult at all. all it is, is waking up at 330 am and doing a bunch of weird exercises and medical test. if you have ever had a physical for a sport, its like an extensive one of those. its not a big deal at all. i think we arrived at thte MEPS station at 415 am ish, and i went through MEPS and swore into the Corps and left to go back to the station at about 1 pm. it just takes a long time. tell them that you accidentally cutyourself or something, if you tell them it was self inflicted, it may affect your joinng process, since they ask you that question like a million times.lol
Not sure how long this thread has been up…but does anyone know how long your information is kept on the MEPS system?
