Can I be sued for libel if I'm innocent?

AHHH… My ex boyfriend claims I made libelous statements about his company on a couple of forums. I did not. He also claims he can prove they came from my IP address. How could they have? So, I asked him which forums and went to look – the comments were not that bad. The poster said the product broke and he was not given a refund. I read on and people were bashing the guy and some were on his side. The thread went on for 5 pages of bantering back and forth. The guy felt burned and wasn’t happy. This was not me. It seems like, to me, that my ex may have written these – because they are not that bad – and is now trying to squeeze money (or thinks he will) from me.

1) Is it possible to make something look like it came from someone else’s IP address?

2) Would a judge even hear this case b/c someone doesn’t like his product? It seems to me that this guy has every right to his opinion.

3) I don’t have a lawyer, or money to get one. I’m on Medicaid and food stamps, and have a 3 year old. I’m also a student. To make matters worse, I am pregnant with my ex boyfriend‘s baby (this guy I speak of). Can I really be sued? How would he get money from me?

4) This is a frivolous law suit, but how can I prove this? He has a computer programmer who is pretty genius on the computer – if he falsified these comments to make them look like they came from me, could I somehow prove they didn’t?

5) If I have to go to court, can I represent myself and be able to win?

Libel over a negative product review?

I feel as if I’m doing so much work on another’s behalf. My ex is accusing me of writing a neg review of his company. At first I thought nothing of it, but now he says he wants to go to court. I asked him if I could look at the reviews and he gave me the names of the forums they were posted on. It is possible to see that this guy was angry and felt like he was ripped off and the product was defective. He made one post, then was continually attacked by people whom he believed worked for my ex – which I know may or may not be true b/c only my ex and his brother work on these. I guess the product he got crakced and when he tried to return it, my ex told him it was after 30 days. I don’t know if this is true b/c my ex seems like the type who would give a refund. The guy said he was offered an exchange, but didn’t want it b/c he felt the product was defective. So, tons of attacks are made on this guy. Bantering goes back and forth for a few days. Some people are on his side, saying they don’t like the look of the product. I’ve read these things extensively b/c I want to be prepared. My ex also told me to look at another forum. I did and the same type of review, on the same day was posted, but under a different name. When I looked at the guy’s profile, it was the same last name.

So, now my ex is blaming me. Saying that I wrote them. They were written on mainly the same day, with the same message, and around the time we broke up. I’m doing my own research b/c I have no money for a lawyer, and in fact, I’m preg with my ex’s baby and have a 3 year old – I don’t need this. I could see how he thinks it’s me, but it wasn’t. There is no convincing him. And now he says that he knows for sure it was my IP – which is ridiculous! He also claims that he wants to sue my dad b/c my dad pays the internet bill, so he is liable – I believe he is now attacking my dad b/c he realizes I have no money myself. I spoke to some IT experts who said it IS possible to make something look like it came ftom my IP – so naturally, I’m a little worried. Around the time of these postings, my computer came down with a virus, that I thought he had sent me. I’m not rich, but my parents are. I think he may be setting me up. If this is a real guy who is upset about the product, then shouldn’t someone protect his freedom of speech? My ex can’t just go around suing people who leave a negative review. The review is pretty harsh, but all that follow is the guy defending himself. I don’t want to repost it, but this is the gist: "I bought some … from … and w/in a few weeks they cracked. When I called the owner was rude to me and I felt he ripped me off. Buyer beware!"
How do I "Turn it around on him?"

Some legal questions, not looking for a "legal" answers, just some "experienced" based ones?

I know I shouldn’t rely on this forum as the exact answers to legal questions, and I’m not, but just had a few quick questions as this is a rather new event that has happened to me (last week).
Short story – got a mediation meeting request for a child custody issue from my ex. Haven’t seen her in 3+ years. She was pregnant, and put the child up for adoption (to her sister and her husband because they couldn’t have kids). She said she was going to put it up for adoption, but I have not seen anything, or heard from her that she did, so I can only go by what she told me, told her I didn’t know how she could put the child up for adoption without BOTH parents consent. I tried conversing with her about me paying child support after a blood test was done to prove the child was mine, and she went off the deep end, and started using the adoption card. I have no problems, nor have I ever had child support issues, but AFTER a blood test was done to prove I was the father, she was totally abusive to me verbally after I wanted that done, but here are a few ??’s I have.

A – How can one parent put up a child for adoption without BOTH parents consent? The only way I can see this happening (if it did) is she put “father unknown” on birth certificate. She did not want me to have anything to do with the child as I was requesting a blood test be done before I would submit to paying child support. She refused my trying to reason with her, as she said I was a horrible father. I’ve been a single parent to my daughter for 11+ years now, but she said I was a terrible father, and she would not authorize me to see the child, but she wanted me to pay child support without a blood test

B – Also, on the website, I noticed the lawyer she went to at the beginning of this mediation process has the same first name of one of the lawyers she almost got married to. They dated, lived together, and almost got married (This was all from her mouth). He has the same first name of the lawyer she always told me about, can’t say it’s the same guy on the website, but it seems too coincidental to me, but my question is, can an “ex” represent her as her lawyer? Isn’t that some kind of conflict of interest. Again, only a mediation appointment, but if it goes to court, if it’s the same guy she lived with, is that legal for him to represent her?

C – I know there’s tons of people out there that will give out “free legal advice”, but if I wanted a lawyer (if it goes that far), and I can’t afford one, and she has “ex’s” that are lawyers that can legally represent her, am I allowed to get a public defendant to represent me for free?

D – if the adoption back then was legal, and legit. Am I by law obligated to pay for back child support, even after the legal adoption date, and if a blood test proves that the child is mine?

Hi let me first say that I know this in not a law forum but I really need some advice.
I was 16 when I robbed a store with an unloaded bb gun and was consequently shot and arrested for doing so. I was locked up for 7 years and have done well for myself since my release. I work, I have a 4.0 GPA, my name was in the Pine Bluff Commercial for making the Presidents list, I have a Web Design certificate, do non mandatory community services (speaking to trouble youth at facilities), designed a website for the city of Pine Bluff, will have my Associate of Applied Science Degree in Computer Information Systems, and working on getting a couple of Microsoft certifications and a MYSQL DBA certificate.
I have done some research and every lawyer I have conversed with including the ADC commissioner tells me I should have a good chance on getting an expungement after my time on parole is up.
I come off parole in June of 09 the crime was committed in 1998 and my PO told me to stop coming to see her because she is sure I won’t get in any more trouble.

I really would like to get my gun rights back and a job as a DBA so I am doing everything I can to increase my chances.
My question to you is what else could I do while on parole to better my character or increase my chances of expungement or of getting hired as a Website Designer or a DBA?????? I know some of you probably think since I am a ex con that I should not have my gun rights restored, so is that also saying that I should not have the right to protect my family in the face of danger. I don’t think it is the ex con’s that is trying to get their records expunged and hunting rights back are the ones to worry about. It is the ones that look to the black market for everything and don’t care about their rights that worries me.
