We both reside in California and I’m just waiting on the Judge’s signed Final Divorce Decree to come to me in the mail.
I have been advised that if I file a Chapter 7 bankruptcy, that it would prevent creditors from collecting or harassing me for things not related to me.
But is/are there other options for me to consider or is this really the only one? I only ask because the advice I received is motivated with me paying them money to file the BK, so I question that it is my only option.
I am fully aware of what having a BK on my credit does and that is stays on there for 10 years. It’s better than contiually getting wage garnished for my ex’s crap for eternity! Right? I just want him completely out of my life.

I am not talking about joint accounts. They are HIS debts, but they attached to me when we married. So now his debtors are collecting from me because he can’t hold a job. THEY don’t care who they get it from.

That was helpful information and concise. I am correcting and disputing this, but in the meantime I’m literally paying his debts not happy about it as you can imagine.

My fiance lost his children in a nasty divorce and child custody hearing. We live in Mississippi and they favor women in child custody cases. His ex-wife is abusive to the children and we have gotten proof. We went to our local D.H.S and the children told them everything. They accused the children of lying and the father of coaching his kids. We even had pictures of injuries their mother left on their bodies. They even had some on them when we went in and showed them. Still it didn’t help. We have been continually reporting these things to our d.h.s and the children have been telling their teachers and counselors at school things that happen to them while in their mothers care, nothing happens. Since then his oldest soon has been molested while in his mother care and nothing has been done by d.h.s. He was tested for molestation by a doc. that our d.h.s referred and when it came back positive they said he was not a credited doc. by them. We have even reported the local d.h.s to our state government, still nothing has been done. The children are 11, 8, and 6. There is still a lot of abuse that I didn’t have room to put on here. We don’t know what to do, and the children are loosing hope and don’t want to talk anymore because their mother finds out what they are reporting about her and they suffer for talking against her. Please help.

In a troubled marriage but still living together. My wife recently filed her taxes without my knowledge and itemized our real estate taxes etc. and recieved a nice refund and sticking me with now having to file seperately and itemizing also, which of course I have nothing left to itemize, meaning I will owe over 3000.00 dollars in taxes!! What options with the IRS or divorce actions am I left with? I dont have 00! Can I reverse her actions with the IRS and force her to refile?
