Is Democracy Dead?

Democracy begins with freedom of choice and popular opinions, views, and the overwhelming will of the people. It dies with morbidly obese government beauracracies and endless lines of redtape, laws, and regulation, with each toothpick removing a liberty from the people. Now before you answer this question, do not attack any of the popular views we are discussing here. It is out of the scope of this question. We are only dealing with the issue, and the popular opinion, whether you like it or not…
1. The people voted against gay marriage… A small panel of judges at the supreme court deemed that ban unconstitutional and overturned a majority opinion of MILLIONS of americans.
2. California has enacted title 24 which forces homes to use a specific light bulb to save energy and minimize environmental impact. It is illegal for me to put a normal bulb in my own home? Irony? The mercury in the "e-safe" bulb creates twice the environmental impact if not properly disposed of…
3. Ready for a federally mandated 55MPH speed limit? I didn’t think so… The overwhelming majority of Americans would not want the federal government mandating speed limits (something that should rest with the state and local counties), and make our commutes any longer than they already are… But get ready for it, because they are planning it whether you like it or not… Legislature no longer cares what we want, but rather what they think we need. This is not democracy.
4. In my small town, the local city government spent ,000 to pay an artist to paint a picture mural on a wall no larger than 60ft by 20 ft. No one voted for this, nor endorsed this allocation of funds.
5. It is illegal to build chimneys in new homes in California.
6. We have more oil in tennesee, offcoast florida, and alaska than the middle east ever did. Yet… We won’t drill for it because of a few environmentalists.
7. My gosh the list goes on and on. The government restricts more of our lives everyday!
And because this economy and its future depends on inflation, the trend will continue. Companies will continue farming money outside of the United States because the government lets OUT of control lawyers and ridiculous factions like the EEOC make it IMPOSSIBLE to create jobs in the US. There is no incentive for a SMB owner to even want to hire people in the US anymore. We demand ridiculous ransoms for a very minimal amount of work, crazy vacations and benefits, threaten lawsuits when things don’t go our way, and have to deal with the government basically telling us exactly what we can and cannot do. For the gentleman who commented about NAFTA and shifting jobs to Mexico, you are COMPLETELY NAIVE if you think you wouldn’t have done the same… Try running a business in this country for six months… It is ridiculously difficult. If I didn’t love California so much, I’d move my business to Mexico too! If I create the job, I want to decide the specs about it. No one has to take the job.

How can I revive my marriage or is it a goner?

I have a little law firm near the water, and my wife of fourteen years unexpectedly came up to my office last month, only to catch me going down on my (female) secratary. She threw-up in the office and wouldn’t come home for a few days.
When she got back home, she asked me why I did it. I told her that our marriage just didn’t grant me the lustful side of life I need.I just let her vent her frustrations then left to go get a BJ from my secratary.

My wife told me about her proposal, when I got back home. I was to join PETA (the national foundation for animal rights) or she would divorce me. She is an animal fanatic and has wanted me to put my financial weight behind the organization for a while. She knew she had me in a corner. Divorce or pay her off by funneling money into PETA’s coffers.

But then two crazy things happened after that.

About a week after I had made my first contribution to PETA, I was on the phone with the secratary, since I didn’t believe my wife was home. She was home, in fact. And she overheard me telling the secratary that I was surprised over how she (my wife) had never caught me in any of my past affairs. That was the moment my wife realized that I had cheated on her with other women. And her attitude changed from there.

But what really confuses me is what happened next. A couple weeks after that infamous phone call, I was driving home and I just happened to be going over the speed limit. And, simultaneously, a dog walked out in front of my car as a sheriff deputy hit his sirens and lights. Normally the law enforcement use their lights for traffic violations. But the deputy’s sirens made me kneejerk my steering wheel and run the dog over. I got out and tried to revive the dog, but he was dead.

Everything was taped. The deputy taped me killing the dog. My wife was told about the incident, and somehow the tape made its way to PETA. At my last PETA event I was formally removed from the organization. I was called "dog killer" until I quit arguing my case and just left.

Now my wife is divorcing me, since I can no longer be a member of PETA (the only reason she was hanging onto our marriage)

Our local Sheriff is young and single and handsome, and, since we live in a small town, everyone knows him. I saw him and my wife having lunch the other day. Did my wife sleep with the sheriff to get the tape, then remove the scene where it shows he trying to save the dog, and give it to PETA?

Did her finding out about the other women push her over the edge?

And, finally, is there a way to save my marriage?
