Why do men leave dirty towels, socks & underpants on the floor, instead of putting them in the laundry basket?

Is it just me, or do other women have men who leave stuff on the floor?

I have often wondered if my husband has a defect in his spine which prevents him bending over, picking up dirty towels or items of clothing and then placing them in the laundry basket.

His side of the bedroom also looks like someone has pulled every item of clothing out of the dresser and then heaved it on the floor.
BTW I do not pick up the stuff on his side of the room!

I’m also not a Stepford wife.

So, I broke up with my ex a little over month ago and I want to give some of his stuff back to him (to help me move on, I suppose). Is it too soon to ask him about giving back his stuff? Or should I just pack it all away and wait a couple more weeks (to make sure that we’re completely over each other by then)? Am I supposed to give gifts back too (even though I want to keep some of them)? =(
