my HDD is partitioned like this:

system (c:) 10gb [for windows]
system (d:) 40gb [for applications]
system (e:) 140gb [for my stuff]

system (f:) 10gb [for windows]
system (g:) 30gb [for stuff]

system (h:) 3gb [additional emergency partition, just in case if i screw up everything, where to install another os to get to files]
————————
so i installed windows xp on (c:) and then on (f:) too, because i share my pc with mom, and my plan is to make two independent os,

where first one uses only (c:),(d:),(e:) partitions, while (f:) and (g:) partitons stays invisible and inaccessible for it
and
second one uses only (f:),(g:)partitions, while (c:),(d:),(e:) are invisible and inaccessible for it

(h:)is invisible for both of them
————————–
SO..

1. how do i make dual boot or whatever, and do i need it at all
(at system startup it allows me to chose which installed os to run anyways, but since they both are winxp it can cause mistakes),
so i’d like to use gag (graphic boot manager) but as long as i had patience and intelligence to read instructions it says either both os have to be on same partition (or was it hdd? S=) either i need to have this ibm boot manager, and since i’m n00b and have very little patience on me i’ d like to get some faster, easier to do and more n00b safe solutions (i dunno even what dos, sectors etc are so plz bare me)

2. what does hide partition option mean (partition magic 8.0)? what it does? can i unhide them when it’ s needed too?

3. how can hide partitions on one os, so that they stay visible on another one? can i do this with hide option at partition magic 8.0?

4. or basically what programs n stuff do i need to make my plan?

thnx

..and yes only 30gigs will do for mom =p

i’ve installed the game and i click play and it goes to a screen with a background that looks like a sims town and things pop up talking about the different games included in the pack.ex. it would say this for the sims making magic "the magicians are getting ready to bring fun and excitment to your sims life, please wait while the curtain rises".but these things will keep on popping up and it will never actually let me play the game.i know that the sims is a large game and needs sometime to load so i let it load for an hour.this is the third time i have tried to play the game and nothing different happened.so i clicked on the question mark instead of play and then i clicked on the easy info button, this and more would pop up but this is what i think could be contributing to it:

Your System:Unknown
Game Requirements:Windows XP/2000/98

i have windows vista.i passed everything else.i have registered my game.if you have questions please ask.

Hello and thanks for your great help in advance:

Would appreciate whatever help some of you folks can give who possess greater tech/computer skills and experience than I.

I am using an HP desktop computer running Windows XP (home). It is an older model (purchased 2003 – I realize I need an upgrade and am shopping!), so the hard drive only has 80 Gig capacity. (very low by today’s standards, I realize).

Problem is, I’ve never used the HD to store all that much really, except in recent years I’ve taken lots of digital photos and scans and put them on the HD, but I just summed up all the file sizes, and they – in total – are less than ONE Gigabyte.

I used to run Windows Explorer Web browser, but over the years, it got worse and worse – slower, more "buggy," problems galore, etc. Now I use Firefox and have been much happier (far fewer problems/bugs/crashes), and just a couple years ago it – and the computer in general – ran fast; like a top. Since, I’m now on the 3rd generation Firefox, and the computer doesn’t run as efficiently. I’m always skeptical of "new and improved" versions of various software, etc. – they are usually a mess, one way or the other.

Anyway, my computer now runs much more slowly and I’m having screen freeze problems, etc. Never much happened before. Why?

Here’s what I’ve done to try and help myself: I ran the "Disk Clean-up" utility, and it was able to rid my hard drive of ca. 1 and one half Gigs of useless files, data, etc. Also, I ran my virus scan, and it searched through all ca. 1 million files, yet returned no virus detections. I thought these utilities might make a difference, yet they have not.

Here’s the rub, too. I used to check my hard drive capacities on "My Computer" just to see how much hard drive space was being taken up. I’ve always heard/read that the more hard disk space is taken up, the slower your computer runs. Heretofore, I’ ve always seemed to have ca. 10-11 Gigs used up and the computer ran fast. NOW, however, mysteriously it reads (even after the Disk Clean-up) ca. 18.3 Gigs used up, with 52.1 "free." I am wondering where in the world I acquired all this gunk taking up hard drive space? Also, I forgot to say, I searched through all "programs" and software titles to delete ones that are useless or that I don’t use and got rid of lots of junk to free up space.

I’m wondering if music files may be the culprit, though my iTunes library isn’t really that big (fewer than 80 songs). Hard to figure this out, actually.

But, other than that, I am mystified as to why the computer runs slower than a 7 year itch (worse than ever) and why it’s so "buggy" these days??!!

I have noticed that since I loaded the Magic Jack software on there (VOIP service; cheap), the computer runs slower. I’ve taken to unplugging the thing when I just read and write emails; surf, etc. Seems to run faster.

I’m wondering if junk I’ve accessed on sites like Hulu.com (internet TV) stays on your hard drive?? Or is it "streaming video," meaning (I hope) that the files do NOT stay on your hard drive? Or do they?? If they do – HOW can I find those useless files in order to delete them? And any other useless file? Often, when I type in the "search for files" thing for a file by name, it returns the message that "no file by that name found" – or whatever.

Any help you can provide would be much appreciated. Especially how to FIND useless file downloads and delete them. But then why does the computer run so bad, with apparently no viruses and AFTER the disk clean-up??

Thanks,

Dave

Hi, I am a big fan of Might and Magic series and I not too long ago bought the Might and Magic 7 Day of The Destroyer game (agian) and for some reason it won’t boot up. According to other people, the reason it won’t boot up is because it was made for a earlier Windows operating system and that newer windows operating systems can’t read it or somthing like that. Anyone know how I can make it so that Windows Xp (my current os) can play older os games. Maby there is a program or even a file I can download or somthing I can do to edit files ect to correct this problem.
If for some reason I didn’t give enough information and you need more information to help me solve the problem just let me know what you need to know, thank you.

I an planning to build a PC around the Intel Core 2 Duo E8500. Most techies recommend Asus P5Q Pro for the E8500. I am just looking to compare a few more brands/models before I make a decision.

I use my PC for Web surfing, watching streaming and downloaded videos (but I do not make videos,) and gaming. Mostly, I surf the Web and watch streaming videos — they make up 80 to 90 percent of my computer activities. I will use Windows XP Pro and avoid Windows Vista (and Linux/Unix) with the new PC.

I intend to play upcoming RPGs (e.g., Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age, Diablo III) and strategy titles (i.e., StarCraft II, Heroes of Might and Magic VI.) I definitely do NOT and will NOT overclock the CPU.

I want a high-quality motherboard, which should not cost more than 0. It should have a moderate number of slots for expansion. Longevity is a very important consideration: it should last for at least five years. (My current PC uses an original Intel motherboard. It is over seven years old and still working fine, and I am extremely happy with it. That is the type of longevity I want.)

Please recommend.
