Why do they tell women to leave their babies at the Police or Fire Station then arrest them when they do?
Every time you hear about a dumpster baby, some law enforcement officer says "she SHOULD HAVE left the baby with the fire department or at the police station". Next news story I read, some lady did that and they arrested her at the police station.
Isn’t arresting a woman who does this kind of counterproductive? I mean, now some lady read the second story, and for damn certain she’s going to the dumpster instead.
Are there any legal ways to drop off a baby without paying ridiculous fees in adoption and without getting arrested? What gives?

You’re misinformed. Police stations and fire stations are now safe places to surrender a baby without fear of prosecution if no other laws have been broken. Our police station and others have a sign designating it as a safe place to leave your baby. But it has to be done without the risk of harm for the baby. Bring the baby into the station and advise an officer of the situation and there is no fear of prosecution.
I’ve never heard of any women being arrested for leaving their baby at the fire department or police department.
Keep in mind, not every state has the option of doing this. Maybe the women being arrested are ones who live in states that don’t? In that case it would still be child abandonment.
Not true.
In most states, a fire station or police station is a ’safe place’ for children to be left.
I’ve NEVER heard of a mother being arrested because she did this.
There are legal ways to give up a child without any costs to the mother…
They cant arrest anyone for dropping off a baby at the pd, fire dpt, ems station, or the hosp.
If they arrested her it was on some other charge like abuse.
I’m with the other answerers, I’ve never read about someone being arrested for leaving a baby at a police or fire station.
I’m not sure what you mean about "paying ridiculous fees in adoption". From what I know, the birth mother doesn’t pay anything, and often gets her expenses related to the pregnancy and birth paid for.
There’s a link on this page to an organization with a hotline people may call with questions about child and baby abandonment issues.
